Adams on the move?

Writer says good chance he exits, but has no mention of sources?

Adams on the move?
A good chance exists that Cowboys Pro Bowl left tackle Flozell Adams, a Proviso West grad, will be changing teams this off-season. Fellow Cowboys tackle Marc Columbo publicly lobbied for the Cowboys to re-sign Adams last week, but it might make sense for the Cowboys to let him go.

Adams will be 32 when training camp begins, which is not too old for an offensive tackle. But Cowboys management is not sold on retaining Adams.

In fact, the Cowboys have been preparing themselves for life after Adams for two years now. In 2006 they drafted Pat McQuistan in the seventh round and have worked diligently to develop him. Last year they drafted Doug Free of Northern Illinois in the fourth round and James Marten in the second round.

Of the three, Free is the leading candidate to replace Adams because of his athleticism. If Free were to fall short, the Cowboys also could move right guard Leonard Davis to left tackle, where he played previously for the Cardinals.

As for Adams, he probably will command a hefty salary on the open market because left tackles are hard to find. But don't expect it to be from his hometown Bears.

If Flo's not re-signed, my prediction is Doug Free gets the nod. He was an absolute steal in the draft. Had 1st round talent.

I like Flo and we need to keep him but if not, Free is damn good and with HH teaching him, he'll be a damn good pro. But make no mistake about it, WE NEED TO KEEP FLO....

I'd like to keep Flo and think he could play 5 more years, but I don't think we can afford it.

Im torn on which way I want things to go with Flo. Despite all the false starts he one of the best in the league and Id love to see him stay with us but its a business. Its just scary seein the chemistry from last year and what they could build on in the future, and now your removing one of its best pieces.

There are a lot of good DE's in the league and I think we need a Flozell if we are going to put it all together, but Id love to see McQ get his shot

I think the question is whether or not we can afford NOT to keep him. Do we really have something in Free, McQuistan, or Martin that is capable of stepping in at LT and protecting our 67 million dollar QB? Do we franchise him? Will he play if we do so?

If we do get rid of Adams I'd take it as a good sign that one of our young guys can really play, but I'd be a bit nervous as well.

I agree on that completely, I wouldn't be heart broken if Flo leaves. Free was a great pick last year, and if David Diehl can play LT so can Doug Free.

I agree, but I think that we have 5 options to protect Romo's blind side. We've got the 3 you mentioned, then Bigg and Colombo if it comes down to it. Surely one of those guys can do it.

Probably not anyone as good as Flo, but you never know until you give em a shot. I'd definitely be nervous, but we have some other holes we need to spend money on. I don't think we have 5 options to try at CB.

I'd hate that. He's proven to be much better at RTG and you don't fix something that isn't broke.

Got to agree. If Flo goes they're going to give Free every oppurtunity to replace him. There is little, to no chance, IMO, that they move Davis to LT. The knock in Arizona was that he was a bust playing LT and now they move him to his more natural position of RG and he's a stud. I see no reason why they'd move him back out to a position he's not nearly as good at. Specially not with the fact that they've drafted 3 guys to groom for the tackle spots in the last two years.

BP said best: dumbest thing to do is to weaken two positions trying to shore up one. BIgg is great at guard, just OK at tackle. AS WAS SHOWN at Arizona. So he is NOT going to go to LT. Its either keep Flo, or have McQ and Free fight it out in camp to replace him.

Flo is leaving, Free will be his replacement and will be a good one at that.

Yep and McQ becomes RG.:(

It's the most obvious choice but not the best...:(

Hopefully the following year Free will have developed and we can move big back to guard, hopefully....:(
