It's been 7 years ago since I had to do the Heimlich on one of my employees. It was his first day teaching for me and we had ordered Chinese combination fried rice. Something got stuck in his throat. No one really knew what was happening and he got up to leave the teacher's lounge. He thought better and stopped and signaled to me that he was choking. It took three attempts to dislodge the piece of meat. It was very scary and actually bothered me a great deal for a long time. It was tough to do because he is taller than I am and outweighed me by 80 pounds.
Here's a BIG piece of advice. I did a little research about this after the fact. MANY of the people who die from choking get up and leave the room looking for a little privacy to try and clear their throats. Then, there is no one to help. If you are choking, go to people, not away.
