Chill out

We did a decent job in the middle, against the run, on defense
I don’t know what happened to the outside linebackers, nonexistent
they looked lost play in, play out. We were allowing them too many yards running imo. Either we need a complete overhaul on the back 7 or the coaching is that bad.

I hear you. BUT we are skeptical due to the culture. While the players come and go, the coaches come and go over the last 31 years, the 1 constant seems to be the Joneses and the afore mentioned culture of no discipline. The mustard came off the hotdog last night. Arm tackles, showboating, blatant fouls, blown coverages repeatedly, and looked not ready to play the opponent. I saw this coming and even as a fan I knew we had to approach this game seriously. We didn't, so we got what we deserved. I was embarrassed.
No culture of discipline, agreed. Penalties and mistakes always fall on preparation and repetition. I'd been the theme...for years.

There are no “wake up calls” with these guys. Not as long as JJ “Sleepwalker in chief” or his family own this team. Expect no meaningful changes until this family sells the team…..which I am not expecting in this lifetime.

All the glory is 30+ years in the past. I hate to serve up a whole ugly dish of reality, but there are many on here who STILL fall for Jones P.T. Barnum act. Not me.
Jerry and the front office are not out there on the field trying to execute the plays.

Yes they are responsible for coaches and players. But theses are not the 1988 and 1989 players either.
Though they looked like it for game 1.

Get that, game 1. Lets give it 3 or 4 more games.
Otherwise stay stuck in your 30 years mantra.

We got our butts handed to us in / on a toilet bowl platter.

The loss could be a wake up call in a way.
The key is how do they handle it moving forward.
I knew the season would start off rough in my predictions on record. I think I said 1-3 to begin. Maybe 1-4. I still think we make the playoffs as a wildcard but we are a work in progress as we saw last night. We have a long way to go. Could even lose the next 2 games.

I have no freaking idea at this point, we blame the coach last season, we going to blame this season, everybody I guess

How many times have we seen piss poor linebacking? How many times have we seen nobody within 10 yards of the rb out in the flat WIDE OPEN UNCOVERED? Until we cover it, I expect teams to do it to us. Doest seem to matter who the d coord is or what scheme we run does it? We must be a low IQ defense. Clearly, we need a linebacker or 2. Winters is ok against the run but is awful in coverage. Overshown is hot mess. A lost pup. Id trade for the Miami Linebacker or just rotate some practice squad guys in. Lets see Barron.

I can see a win over Washington, but a loos against Baltimore.
Maybe even a loss against Houston, deepening what Stroud shows up, against our bad looking defense.

I dont need Christian Parker to be the Messiah

I need him to adjust….theres no way youre playing deep zones ALL NIGHT and giving up ALL under stuff

Bring the guys up, press and if they get beat deep so what ….

I dont expect a top ten unit, i expect an aveage unit between 15-17 this year and hopefully he learns
Exactly, the bar is extremely low and he failed to come close to hitting it in week one already.

There are 4 quarters to a game, and at least 17 games for a full season.

First game of the year, 16 more to go.

I've read all the pre season hype on this board before the game last night, and many of the fans here we're already crowning the Cowboys our division champs, and I'm just scratching my head on how people get so hyped up over preseason games.

Here is the reality IMO. Our head coach is one the least paid head NFL head coach in the league. There is a reason for that. Christian Parker is not Jesus Christ, and can not work miracles overnight, and although we have gotten some new guys on the team, our defense was last in the league last year for a reason. First Parker is the greatest thing since sliced bread, and now some want him fired after ONE game LOL

The added reality is the cowboys could crush the commies next week, and the bi polar disorder will continue with this fanbase on this forum. All will be forgiven until the next loss.

Flame away....
How is there anything in anyone's mind that you see anything redeemable about what we saw last night??

It does not look fixable. Fundamentally the team looks broken. You don't roll that out there in game 1. I will be really surprised if they turn it around. The schedule is brutal.

Facts sure are pesky things to a lot of folks. Or did we win something in the last 30 years that I missed??? Anyone?
Take each year as a new opportunity. I don't like it either. But I can't do anything about it. So I do not allow it to consume me to be miserable. I look forward to what each new season can bring.

Zero accountability, coaching or discipline. Thanks Jerry.

Rinse and repeat

End of the day, a year after the Green Bay playoff debacle, and Jerry decides to hire Shotty as the head coach, in your opinion did Jerry see in Shotty what no one else in the NFL saw or did Jerry see the status quo and realize he had nothing to lose by getting out cheap to hire a guy that fills the position and a change has been made?

I believe Jerry took the short and easy way out to make a change to show he's trying to do something. Shotty is one of the lowest paid head coaches in the NFL for a reason. No clue what Parker makes (does anyone?) but the reality is the Cowboys organization now isn't a place you want to be as a coach IMO, but a stepping stone in hopes to bigger and better things to make a name for yourself. That's the pessimist in me

What happened to Parker is no different than what happened to Moore to some extent.

I get it, but I’m jaded, and have been for years……

At the end of the day, if your favorite sporting team decides how you live your life, I honestly think you have bigger issues.

Do I get bummed out and ticked off after a game like last nigh? Yes. But the general rule is that feeling shouldn't last more than 24 hours (that and I've learned my lesson not to buy into an fan hype). I have a wife who loves me, we're financially secure, and our boy is doing pretty well for himself in the military who we're proud of.

I have hope for the Cowboys, but the realist in me tells me that until the Jones change their management style, we will have our ups and downs along with drama, but until we get a real head coach along with a real GM who is held accountable for his job, I'm not expecting a super bowl win (and if I'm proven wrong, I'll be happy about it). Like I said, that's the realist in me.

I just find it funny that guys seem to be going off their rocker on the first game of the season on this forum ;)

Every year we get the "chill out, it's only 1 game" mantra as if everyone should ignore the same old crap that indicates nothing has changed.

Yeah guys. Chill out.

The cowboys are coming off two losing seasons and played like crap in week 1.

Just be patient.
