BEIJING -- A 17-year-old boy in northeastern China was so disappointed with the looks of a woman he met over the Internet that he hanged himself after seeing her face-to-face, state media reported Friday.

The unnamed teenager first contacted the woman -- known by her chat moniker "Qunjiaofeiyang", or "Flying Skirt" -- using the popular Chinese online messaging software QQ, Xinhua news agency said.

The girl described herself as a beautiful 19-year-old and the pair chatted on the Web for weeks before arranging a December 26 rendezvous in the nearby city of Mudanjiang, in far northeastern Heilongjiang province.

The boy arrived to discover the woman far less attractive than advertised and 10 years older than him, Xinhua said.

The boy immediately returned home, lost his appetite, and four days later hanged himself from a tree.

Women lie about their looks/weight/age? Preposterous.

Huh, the internet and women destroying a man's life...nothing new here.

My space helped my brother find out his girlfriend of 8 years was actually a ***** in disguise.

Several yrs ago I entered the internet dating fray. I kept meeting girls(approx half of those I met) who had herpes! Happily, they were kind enough to inform me of this upfront. And when they weren't carrying social diseases, I found we got along online much better than in person. Haven't set about meeting anyone online since.

:laugh2:

I have only dated someone I met online once and it was a girl who moved to my area and contacted me on AIM...she was upfront and attractive and we had a good relationship for a while...I luckily never had any sort of disaster like I have heard about.

Murder. :p:

I went out on one date with a girl I met on the internet. I wouldn't even call it a "date". We went to a movie, then went to my "spot" and ... let's just say I got a happy ending. The girl was nice and everything, but I'm not interested in carrying out a relationship with a girl that gives it up on the first date to a guy she just met (in person) and alcohol wasn't even involved. It didn't help that I was living out of town at the time.

Then again, I was pretty irresistable back in those days so I really shouldn't blame her. :D

The other half ALSO had herpes... they just didn't tell you upfront!

My husband and I met online 3 1/2 years ago.

Sucks you all had bad luck, but that's not everyone's experience.

p.s. I don't think I've ever known anyone with herpes, male or female....where the hell were you looking? :p:

Just the regular dating sites you have certainly heard of before. These were not obvious tramps or anything-- seemed very normal really.

Internet dating is probably about as reliable as anything else. Probably a lot cheaper then trolling at singles bars.
While I feel sorry for that kids family, someone like that is pretty much looking for an excuse to off himself. Would have happened sooner or later no matter what.
