Good for him, he's making more money and advancing in his career. Why be upset over that?

Well he has done better than Garrett in his first two years. He actually made the playoffs in year one and had a record that would have made the playoffs the last two years in his second year. He did this with scrubs at QB too. I hate the Eagles with a passion but I believe Chip Kelly is a good coach. If they get a good QB they will be a very good team.

I disagree.

I think Chip is a good COLLEGE coach. He will fill that team with his type of college players, you know, the spread offense. That offense doesn't work in the NFL.

Year 1, everyone was surprised by his offense, and they were good. Scored points at will. Nick Foles was going to Canton.

Year 2, the good defenses figured out how to shut that offense down. 3 of his wins came due to special teams and defensive gifts. As we all saw, those lucky bounces ended in December.

A real QB? The spread offense is the easiest offense to run for a QB. Tebow did it. Manziel did it. HOFer Marriota does it.

Where is Tebow now? You think Manziel will be in the league in 3 years?

If the spread offense was so awesome, wouldn't every NFL team be running it?

What about the hurry-up? You see, his defense was on the field way more than any other NFL team. Guess what? In December, that Defense got torched. I guess they were a little worn out.

I predict an even worse record in Year 3.

This was Howie Roseman's draft pre-Chip....

1(12) Fletcher Cox DT Mississippi St.
2(46) Mychal Kendricks LB California
2(59) Vinny Curry DE Marshall
3(88) Nick Foles QB Arizona
4(123) Brandon Boykin CB Georgia
5(153) Dennis Kelly OL Purdue
6(194) Marvin McNutt WR Iowa
6(200) Brandon Washington OG Miami
7(229) Bryce Brown RB Kansas St.

Then Chip arrived and though he wasn't the GM, it's acknowledged that he had his say in the war room. Here's his two drafts so far....

1(4) Lane Johnson OT Oklahoma
2(35) Zach Ertz TE Stanford
3(67) Bennie Logan DT LSU
4(98) Matt Barkley QB USC
5(136) Earl Wolff S North Carolina St.
7(212) Joe Kruger DE Utah
7(218) Jordan Poyer DB Oregon St.
7(239) David King DE Oklahoma

1(26) Marcus Smith DE Louisville
2(42) Jordan Matthews WR Vanderbilt
3(86) Josh Huff WR Oregon
4(101) Jaylen Watkins CB Florida
5(141) Taylor Hart DE Oregon
5(162) Ed Reynolds S Stanford
7(224) Beau Allen DT Wisconsin

Now, Howie's class has the benefit of more years to establish themselves but is it a reach to say his class probably stands a good chance of being the best by far? Cox is a beast. One of the best interior linemen in the game. Kendricks is one of their best players on defense, Curry is an emerging pass rusher that gives them quality depth, Foles is at least a decent starting QB who took them to the playoffs, Boykin might be their best cornerback, Brown produced while he was there. That's a pretty damn good class, IMO. He went 5 for 5 with those first 5 picks.

On the flip side, Lane Johnson has been underwhelming now that he's off the PEDs. Ertz looks good in spots but has struggled to get the full time starting job. Logan has been very good and there's not much else in that 2013 class.

2014 is still a work in progress admittedly but this class looks pretty terrible so far. Smith has been a monumental bust his first year. He can't get on the field. Matthews looks good, Huff is a special teamer and maybe a 3rd or 4th WR. They have hope for Watkins and that's pretty much it.

I think you could combine Chip's two classes and possibly not have the impact of Howie's 2012 draft class.

So, yeah, I'm fine with Chip Kelly wrestling all personnel away from Howie Roseman.

Well he has done better than Garrett in his first two years.

This is a weak comparison, that gets used far too often around here.

Yes, Chip had more success during his 1st year as HC than Garrett did. However, it had nothing to do with him actually being a better coach. Chip's gimmicky offense caught the league off guard (the same way the 'Skins did the previous year), and he eeked his way into the playoffs. Big deal.

I don't know how anyone could say he had more success than Garrett during his 2nd year. In Garrett's 2nd year he at least had the team playing for a playoff berth in week 17. Chip was playing for draft positioning by that time.

Regardless, I'd rather have a coach who's building something for the long term, something sustainable, something with substance- and it's clear Garrett's doing just that. Chip on the other hand, may have already seen his highest level of success in this league.

I never want my team to be dependent on a philosophy that's based around a gimmick.
