Eagles need to do something different - there drafts in the past 5 years have been brutal.

In 2012 they drafted Fletcher Cox, Mychal Kendricks, Vinny Curry, Nick Foles, Brandon Boykin, and Bryce brown who they traded a 4th rounder this year for.

In 2013 they drafted Lane Johnson, Zach Ertz, and Bennie Logan.

those don't look like brutal drafts to me.

It takes good culture AND scheme to be successful, and to place most of your emphasis one one over the other is not particularly wise in my opinion.

Which is good for Chip, because his scheme is everything.

Philadelphia Eagles coach Chip Kelly is huge on culture.
No, he’s not hanging out at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

We are talking about football culture. He thinks it can decide games.

“Culture wins in football,” he said on the sideline during an Eagles game captured by NFL Films. “Culture will beat scheme every day.”

So when examining some of the moves he has made this offseason and last, view them through a cultural prism.

Kelly got rid of star wide receiver DeSean Jackson last year, and standout running back LeSean McCoy in 2015. The moody Jackson was considered a divisive influence in the locker room. McCoy seemed too concerned with his own stats. He also left a 20 cent tip at a Philadelphia restaurant last year, causing a stir.

Kelly feels you need certain type of guys on your roster, in your locker room, to be successful.

Remember, Kelly hails from New Hampshire. He’s been a long-time admirer of New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick, who is also very big on football culture.

During the draft, most teams have about 150 players they consider on their draft board. According to longtime NFL scout Daniel Jeremiah, now with the NFL Network, the Patriots only consider about 75. They have exacting scouting standards.

The Patriots want hard-working, selfless, smart tough-guys with good character who love football.

Kelly looks at it the same way.

So this explains Kelly’s interest in Tim Tebow, who worked out for the Eagles coach on Monday. Who represents that culture template more than Tebow?

Reportedly, if the Eagles can trade QB Matt Barkley, they will sign Tebow.

Heading up Kelly’s free agent class this year is former Dallas Cowboy running back DeMarco Murray, who is not only a heck of a running back, but a heck of a person, too.

So before suggesting Kelly get his head examined for his some of the personnel moves he’s made, remember, there’s a method to his madness.

How many of those guys are on the team today?

What an absolutely terrible article! Absolute drivel! The worst and weakest attempt to justify what Kelly is doing and make it look smart.

So, the point is that he got rid of Jackson and McCoy because they were 'bad guys'? Even if we accepted that premise (which we don't), why then did he get rid of Maclin, Herremans, Trent Cole, and Nick Foles?

Were they 'bad guys' too? And if it's all about 'good guys', why wait to sign Tebow? If it's that important, nothing - including the fact that the guy can't play - should stand in the way of adding such a positive presence to the team.

This attempt at journalism is the ultimate reach and offers nothing of substance to support it. The writer should be legitimately embarrassed.

And as for Kelly, he's resembling Steve Spurrier more and more each day. And I think he'll soon repeat another of Spurrier's moves. Running back to college.

I think he knows what he's doing.

I don't think he does. First, most good teams are looking for the same qualities as mentioned. Nothing new there. Second, if reports are true that he runs harder up tempo practices more so than any other team, the players know this and some of them will cause problems in the locker room. Once you have a divided locker room it's all but over. He can't run the players like he reportable does in the NFL. He thinks he can hence his getting rid of current malcontents, but this ain't college anymore.

Well, while I do think he knows what he's doing on the football field, I haven't been impressed with his personnel moves this season.

If his goal is to get rid of bad guys, why is Riley Cooper still playing for him? What he said on camera was worse than anything Desean or McCoy has done.

I think Chips a hard-headed dude, and he rubbed McCoy and Desean the wrong way. Or vice-versa.

What I don't get is why he's bringing in so many players with significant injury history or injury history at key positions.

I thought he showed a lot of imagination for the play on the field this year. Fast break offense.
They just need to pause briefly some times to let the clock tick a bit.
Give the Eagle defense a chance not to have to play 35 plus minutes a game.
But like it's stated above he signed a lot of guys who have injury history.

I think he knows what he's doing.

I am a native Texan having lived in New England for over 15 years and recently in Durham, New Hampshire and seeing the small stadium Chip was at not long ago I will say he has made strides beyond comprehension in very little steps. Don't count him out just yet. I think he is confident and has a plan.Welcome the competition!

The whole article is BS, those exacting standards let New England down when they drafted the worst character guy ever. Blows my mind they get a pass for that.

Great football team, but " media darlings" in many regards with key example being the one you pointed out.
