This guy is going to be a steal. This guy is smooth, fast, and quick in space. He has the speed and size to matchup with RBs and TEs. He has the range and speed to play centerfield.

6-1 3/8
220
4.42
4.12 20 yard shuttle

He's a former WR.

If you are Dallas, can you pass on a talented player like this?

In round 3, he's a flat our steal.

stiff, straight line runner, does not transition into his back pedal well - same problem w/Bruton (who has similar size & 40 times)

I saw where Bruton didn't look good in his drills during his pro day.

As far as Vaughn is concerned, I have not seen a good look at his back pedal, but he sure didn't look one dimensional in those clips. He looked quick and demonstrated good instincts and change of direction. His 4.12 short shuttle was better than Delmas, Chung, and Johnson. He had really good lateral movement while chasing those quick, fast RBs from the ACC.

This guy is a SS, not a FS. He might not be as smooth as some of those FS guys, but he clearly has the range to play centerfield in Dallas' scheme. If Dallas has his athleticism (at SS) against the Ravens, they go to the playoffs. Plus, he can play in the box and take Brandon Jacobs and Clinton Portis. You can blitz him with that quickness and speed. He has a lot of value, imo.

A 6-1, 220 pound guy who runs a 4.42....

Are you kidding me?

This guy is rising fast. I have not seen a report about how he looked today.

His best football is ahead of him.

At the SS position, he's the best value in this draft, imo. (Round 3)

I would take this guy over Delmas and Chung and Johnson, and I wouldn't hesitate. He's a better athlete at his position. That straight-line speed is going to get him out of trouble in the NFL.

With all the man coverage Dallas is going to play and played when Newman came back, this guy would fit right in (at SS). He can play the single, high safety. He has the range and speed.

Edit:

I just read where an AFC assistant coach stated that Vaughn was clocked under 4.4 on his watch at the combine and says that he will come off the board much faster than people expect. Take it for what it's worth.

The Cowboys just signed a good athlete at SS. However, it's a one year deal. We'll see who grabs this guy.

Don't be blinded by his 40 time. It's all razzle dazzle but he gets beat alot. His lateral movement isn't all that great and he hardly makes plays. I wouldn't pick him before the 5th.

I'm definately looking at his 40 time. The NFL is going to be faster than college. Speed kills, and his speed will get him out of some trouble on the next level. His lateral movement looks pretty dog-gone good to me. He's fast and quick and has good instincts. Plus, he has very good range, and that is the key. He can line up and play the single, high safety. He says he can play FS, too. He has the agility, speed, quickness, and size to play the run very well. Delmas and Johnson may not hold up. Delmas has concussion concerns and misses tackles in space. Johnson can miss tackles in space. Vaughn doesn't miss tackles in space. He's a very good space player from what I'm reading.

If he gets a little stiff coming out of in his backpedal, it's because he is probably coming out of it too high. That can be fixed.

While he played closer to the line at Wake Forest, from what I'm reading, that doesn't mean that he can't play deep. They were just playing to a strength. Bunting says that he has the range to play deep. I saw him playing deep on a couple of those interceptions. Patrick Chung doesn't have great range from the middle of the field from what I've read.

Vaughn can matchup with with the Chris Cooleys of the world. He has the physical tools to do it. The Giants and Eagles are fixing to draft TEs. Vaughn would be a wise move, imo. He has the tools to cover them.

This guy has more upside than Chung, Delmas, or Johnson, imo. As I said, his best football is ahead of him. He had two very good years at Wake, and he could make your special teams better.

He will never see round 5. He might not get by Dallas in round 3. Late round 2 isn't out of the question if that AFC coach is serious.

Dallas would be very wise to draft him. Drafting Vaughn in round 3 would give Dallas more value than drafting guys like Chung, Johnson, or Delmas in round 2. Vaughn is the better value in round 3.

I agree with you 100%!

Vaughn would make an excellent SS, but then I already knew that. :)

Great job on that mock. You had him in round 3. We like him, but will Dallas pull the trigger? I would.

They need more safety depth, and this guy would fit right in. If the SS has more upside than the FS guys, why reach for a FS? How many times do you get an opportunity to draft a 6-2, 220 pound guy who runs a 4.42. He could really help on special teams, too. He's rising up the boards.

Vaughn is a run stopping beast. He is more comfortable, more aggressive against the run. Not so much against the pass. No one doubted he was fast, in fact it was not a surprise at all that he measured so well.

For a former WR, he is not very aware in pass coverage and will struggle. But you could be right, the best of Chip Vaughn could be ahead of him, at the pro level.

But don't get fooled by the 40 and other times, CV is not a flashy player, he is more steady, if he fullfills his potential (get much, much better in coverage) he could be a Darren Woodson type. Watch out for Denver's Josh Garrett, I think that kid is almost at that stage, he is sure showing a lot in his short time w/the Broncs.
