Choice carries

I'm of the opinion that there should be some sort of rotation for the Cowboys with Marion Barber and Tashard Choice. I don't think anyone can deny that our featured back should be Felix. But like last year, I don't see any one back being the clear cut #1. It, again, will be running-back-by-committee for the Dallas Cowboys.

Which brings us to Felix, who I think should get the ball as our featured back. I think Felix should touch the ball 15 times a game. 18 if he's not taking to many hits. He's the big play threat and is capable of producing HUGE ypc averages.

With that being said, and in imaginative fashion, I propose we rotate Tashard Choice with Marion Barber for the other 10-15 carries which could be allocated to any player in the backfield. They would rotate every other game, like we did initially with Scandrick and Jenkins.

I want to see a competition between the two players. This will do two things.

Number one, it gives Marion Barber some rest at a position that takes a beating. It could prolong his career.

Number two, it creates competition and could really develop a role for a player in Tashard Choice who, I think, is a special player in his abilities. He just hasn't gotten enough carries to show that, nor enough in order to catch up to the NFL speed completely.

So it's a win win. And I'm comparing this to exactly what we did last year with Scandrick and Jenkings.

The only problem I see, imaginatively thinking of course, is that Marion could take this as a negative thing for himself. Yet it does open doors for positives things to happen to Tashard Choice.

I truly hope this is the year we get to see him get more carries.

I also think Marion could take on a non-traditional role at full-back and that would improve the team giving us more options there. But the choice is really up to the staff.

I just hope to see more Choice carries.

If Barber is healthy, he and Felix should continue to get the bulk of the carries. The only difference we'll see is Felix will get the majority of those carries. So unless there is an injury, Choice will be relegated to that 3rd down role.

Everything cant be equal opportunity, especially at the RB position where runners need to get into some type of rhythm during the course of the game.

When you've got 3 good RBs, somebody is going to be the odd man out to an extent, especially on this team when you've got Romo at QB with all the weapons at WR/TE. This is why I think Choice probably privately hoped for a trade earlier in the offseason.

what has he shown - nothing trade him
Are you serious? Did you see Tash at the end of the 08 season when MBII and Felix went down. He showed alot against some very good defenses.

Too utopian for you?

He showed he's shifty and that he, too, can pick up some big yards and put up good ypc averages. He comes in on fresh legs and I think he gets into the rhythm rather quickly as opposed to Marion who usually takes a couple of runs before we see anything big.

In my opinion, Barber should be used in 3rd and short whereas Choice should get carries at other times. Because I think Felix is our best 3rd down back. But we gotta figure out how to get Choice the rock. He came up big a couple of times against the Eagles. He and Felix were Eagle killers.

Regardless of this rhythm theory, I think the rotation works better because you risk less injuries and you're running on fresh legs.

fresh legs againest tired defenses - he has shown me nothing

I think he should be traded instead of Austin

CowboyMcCoy,

You want "imaginative" as opposed to what...unimaginative?

I also think it's a little crazy that you want Felix to get up to 18 carries, and yet you also want Choice to have more carries? You need to check your math. There aren't as many carries to go around as you think there are.

Last season the 3 backs totaled 24.6 carries per game.

You didn't read the part about the rotation, did you?

IF the don't plan on cutting MBIII next year the should trade Choice let him play somewhere

if he can handle it not as sweet on him as most of you guys are

Choice is a feature back and will carry the load for a team in the coming years. Hopefully that's Dallas...

Against Pittsburgh in 2008, Choice had 23 carries for 88 yards and 5 catches for 78 yards. And you want to know who he split carries with? Romo, TO, and Deon Anderson. They totaled 3 carries for 7 yards. Then against the Giants, he had 9 carries for 91 yards and 1 TD and 4 catches for 52 yards. Then against Baltimore, he had 17 carries for 90 yards and 1 TD and 7 catches for 25 yards. In those last two games, Barber had a total of 10 carries.

Choice is Emmitt Smith reincarnated. He is not only better, he is way better, than Barber is now. Jones has a place, but not as an every down back. If that is tried with him he will perform no better than Barber did in that role. Both Jones and Barber are better as off-the-bench players. They always have been. Choice is the only one who can carry the load all the way through, and has. He should be given the job, using the other two for variety in particular situations.

IMO, of course.

They will think we're crazy. Prepare for Armageddon.
