Cowboys have a bunch of players that have perceived high ceilings but have yet to reach that level of play for one reason or another. Ex. LVE, Gregory, Rico, Bo, etc etc

Two questions:
1. Which player with a perceived high ceiling would help the Cowboys the most to reach that ceiling?
2. Who is most likely to reach that ceiling?

I'll put mine in later as I want those answers to be the topic of conversation.

1. Would help us the most - Gregory, because good speed rushers are rarer than hen's teeth and he has the skills to be a freaking terror.

2. Most likely to reach their ceiling - I'd say Chido. He got beat a few times as a rookie (see Doug Baldwin taking possession of his soul on a TD vs Seattle), but he had some amazing games in between those rough spots. Given how well he played in year one at a very difficult position, and that he's a great fit for our new press-coverage defense, and that he's got the maybe the best DB coach in the business coaching him up, I'm thinking he's going to break out.

Good questions Quincy.
1. Which player with a perceived high ceiling would help the Cowboys the most? I don’t just think there’s one but more like 3 guys. If these 3 show the potential they were drafted to possess, the Cowboys will make the playoffs and make some noise- Jaylon Smith, Randy Gregory, and Byron Jones. Two former #2 draft picks and a former #1 pick, all on drafted to make an immediate impact on our defense. If those three have outstanding years, so will the Cowboys.

2. Who is most likely to reach that? Of the three guys I listed, the most likely guy is the one most fans hate on this site- Byron Jones. Two reason why I say BJones- a. He’s been very good at times, but has lacked the big play element. He has the talent, he just needs to make plays. b. I think Kris Richard may be the right coach who gets him there. Jaylon Smith may get there, certainly hope so. Randy Gregory is unlikely just because I expect him to struggle at first as he gets used to the NFL again.

Depending on what you think his ceiling is - if it is high - the player we all should want to reach his ceiling the most is the QB.
People don't associate high ceiling with Dak.

He wasnt an elite talent that fell due to off field
A former 1st rounder
An elite athlete
Insane measurements
Injury prone player
Player that fell in draft due to injury
Etc

2. LVE

Jaylon would have the most impact because before his injury he had one of the highest ceilings and he's in a position of serious need.

I'm one that believes Rico is nothing more than hype but if his ceiling is anywhere near as high as some on this forum claim, this season would be the ideal time for a stud TE to emerge.

1. Jaylon Smith- People forget just how dominant he was in college. His ceiling might be the highest with elite athleticism, elite character makeup, elite production. With Lee and Ceiling Jaylon I don't see how any team could run or pass over the middle.

2. Irving- I truly believe he is going to tear the league apart once he returns. He's putting up generational talent level stats at DT and some want him gone after this season no matter what. It's odd. Gregory off the right end will hopefully open Irving up even more on paasing downs.

Tavon Austin??

That's a really good answer because if he could have lived up to his billing he'd be another DeSean Jackson.

I chose the Larry Allen route with Chaz Green.

when? this year or longer term?
for example, there's pretty much zero chance LVE or Gregory reach their ceiling this year

Easy. Byron Jones.

If he lives up to his hype and athleticism, it will cement the secondary on the perimeter.

In the event he can grab a starting job and beat out Lewis, Lewis becomes our version of Chris Harris at slot corner.
