Cowboys have a bunch of players that have perceived high ceilings but have yet to reach that level of play for one reason or another. Ex. LVE, Gregory, Rico, Bo, etc etc

Two questions:
1. Which player with a perceived high ceiling would help the Cowboys the most to reach that ceiling?
2. Who is most likely to reach that ceiling?

I'll put mine in later as I want those answers to be the topic of conversation.
No doubt, Jaylon. Ya' just want the guy to succeed. Good attitude, great athletic ability before injury, high motor, and good instincts for the position.
I have always liked Byron Jones - just needs the game approach like Richards teaches it; it's now or never for him.

Gregory had the highest perceived ceiling. He would have been a top 10 pick if not for the weed issue.

They have a bigger need for Vander Esch to be good than Gregory because of the lack of other options at MLB as compared to DE.

They could be in trouble if OG C-Will is not on his way to reaching his ceiling this season.

Gallup might not be considered as high of a ceiling type player but a great season from him might help as much as any young player.

They can manage at TE with just OK players. If Rico reaches his ceiling, it won't be this season.

Byron Jones at CB in the Kris Richard press scheme is my vote for most likely to reach his ceiling this season. After reviewing the scheme primarily by watching Richard Sherman, I believe Jones is basically the prototype physically to play that scheme/style.

I hope its Elliott cause its evident we need him to carry the offense and facilitate things for Dak.

realistically certain players could just play well and really help
one of the linebackers (or both) need to make it ok if Lee misses a game
the safeties need to step up
Dak needs to be better
a couple of options at DE other than Tank would be really nice, bonus if one of them is a RDE
a receiver that has a connection with the qb wouldnt hurt
i dont even think the future #1 tightend is on the roster tbh. these guys are ok but...
coaches?

I think Chidobe will be national talking point by week 12.

The most unlikely to happen, but Gregory by a mile.

Gathers reaching his ceiling would be most beneficial, however that is the least likely option.

Easy one. On offense, it’s Dak, simply because he plays the most critical position in all of sports. On defense, either Jaylon Smith or Randy Gregory.

1. Given the criteria, I'd have to go with Randy Gregory.

His ceiling at one time was believed to have possibly been the #1 overall pick in the 2015 draft. He has the traits of a special pass rusher and that's one of the league's most in demand positions. If he could reach his ceiling at RDE with Demarcus Lawrence being the same force at LDE, the Cowboys would arguably have the best pass rush in the league. And that pass rush could help to transform their defense into one of the best in the league.

2. I think that Chido Awuzie is most likely to reach his ceiling. Injuries slowed him last year but I think if he stays healthy this year he will have a great season and definitely be worth the second round draft pick. I have faith that he will thrive under Kris Richard's coaching.

Probably Connor Williams. Playing LT in college and moving inside usually works out well.

Strictly in terms of potential our defense has some crazy high ceiling players. Jones, Awuzie, LVE, Jaylon, Gregory, Irving.

I don't expect Taco or Gregory to contribute much, again, but I think it's going to be one of three DBs (high hopes for Awuzie or Lewis to fine tune where they left off or Jeff Heath as he has solid CBs that can do their job and a new defensive coach that'll allow them to be their best) or Jaylon Smith.

I'm hoping it is Jaylon this year.

I agree for the defense. I think he is most important given the propensity for Lee to be unavailable. If Jaylon can mentally and physically be that guy if Lee goes out, that will be a key to the season.

Offense it is Dak.

Easy. Byron Jones.

If he lives up to his hype and athleticism, it will cement the secondary on the perimeter.

In the event he can grab a starting job and beat out Lewis, Lewis becomes our version of Chris Harris at slot corner.

He'd make the most sense as far as anyone reaching their ceiling soon.

A lot of the players mentioned in the OP probably won't reach their ceiling this year because they are just getting their career started. For instance, anyone expecting Jaylon Smith to go from what he was last year to what he'll eventually become as an NFL player is probably expecting too much.

With a player like Jones, he should be at the point where it will be clear what his talent level is.

I was coming into the thread to say Jaylon.. but after giving it some thought I would love for it to be Randy Gregory.. if he reached his ceiling and Lawrence put up the same type of season he did last year.. this could be fun to watch!
