Rookie defensive end Chris Canty had the final examination on his repaired eye Monday morning and was cleared to engage in contact work starting next week, Parcells said.

"(Next) Monday I think he'll be full speed if we don't have any setbacks," Parcells said of the Aug. 8 date.

Canty has not participated in full contact drills yet, but he spent Saturday working with team trainers during practice. He flew to North Carolina Sunday night and was not at practice Monday.

A fourth-round pick who played the 3-4 scheme at Virginia, Canty could contribute immediately rotating at right defensive end with Greg Ellis.

So hes goin to be cleared for full practice starting next week?

Can that be right? If so could be the steal of the draft. Or he might just be a 4th rder.

Lets see how that knee holds up first.

He tore three ligaments. I think hell contribute but wont be a force until year 2.

To me it sounds like he is very close to being a force now...I think the eye was the only thing holding him back...

However, yes it usually takes awhile to get back some of the quickness lost from a severe knee injury , so it will be interesting to see him develop.
