The Chargers are not expected to retain free agent DE Igor Olshansky.

Olshansky's motor runs hot and cold, but another team surely will take a flier on the 6'6/309-pounder. He could land with a team looking for power up front.

He'll command as much, if not more than Canty. I'll pass.

I am not so certain he does. If he is reasonable, he would be an alternative because he would absolutely know the Wade Phillips defense.

Canty to me seems more marketable and has better physical tools to go to work in either a 3-4 or 4-3 line.

You could be right. I may way off base here. But when a scrub like Kelly sets the market in Oakland at $50 million, I'm not optimistic at landing an Olshansky at a bargain basemnt price.

Would just assume we keep Canty instead of signing him, unless Wade is just in love with the guy.

Otherwise I think the draft is a viable option, as is the possibility of Hatcher stepping into the starting role.

I think most non-idiot decision makers in the NFL laugh at the Kelly deal on a daily basis. Just like they did at the DeAngelo Hall one also. Using Al Davis' decisions as a benchmark is a foolish method for any agent. If they use this, they are doing their client a grave injustice.

I'm still on the fence with Canty. I'd like to keep him but we may not be able to afford him. Some team will drive up his price because of his "potential" instead of his accomplishments.

Hatcher inspires absolutely no confidence in me.

He should have shown more in a limited role and he was mostly invisible. I know I would not count on him to assume the job, much less on the opposite side from where he has been lining up for the most part.

I'd go for drafting his replacement over expecting Hatcher to replace Canty. I was really wanting him to be the real deal but so far he has been a disappointment.

oh I agree he isnt a sure thing if he gets moved to the starting role, but it is possible

he was one of the more disappointing players this yr IMO, along with guys like Hamlin

I don't like our linemen. They seem to want accolades more then just doing their job. The backups are almost totally unreliable when it comes to the commitment to stop the run. You can tell when the backups are in because those 1 and 2 yard gains in the running game become 4 and 6 yarders b/c some back up is getting blown off the ball or not maintaining gap responsibility. (Tank, Spencer, Hatcher all included. Bowen is ok but he usually comes in on passing downs)

If we can keep Canty then do it. If not we'll find an alternative. I'd like to see Hatcher and Bowen do the job.

I'm more worried about NT on the DL than DE.

Make Canty sign that 1st round tender. If he goes, we damn well better get compensation come April.

That's the kicker, though. Canty's agent already stated that Kelly's numbers are where their negotiations begin. They tried talking those numbers to Dallas last season and Dallas hasn't spoken a word to them since last August (based on the insanity, I would assume).

I hope Canty's agent gets a good laugh from the rest of the NFL. If not and somebody bites, the draft will be our ONLY opton. Canty gets 50 mil, that puts Olshnsky in a minimum of the 40-45 mil range.

Could always place the 2nd round tender on him right?? Might as well get compensation if we lose him to a huge contract. I like Igor and think he's a solid player. 3-4 D-linemen dont get alot of mention so of course it's hard to hear much about him. If he wants a decent deal, then I'm all for it

I don't see a hope of either one being in Dallas next year. That's too much $ for $10M in cap space, especially since a nice chunk of that room will be eaten by Ware's bonus.

They could do the Commander thing and convert a ton of 2009 salary to bonus, but Jones already has a ton of future $ on the books. It makes no sense to go deeper into the hole unless Jones is positive there'll be an uncapped year.

Then all Stephen has to do is rise from his chair, laugh softly, shake Blanks' hand and say have a nice day. I wouldn't even open the door for him.

All Jason Hatcher need is playing time, the guy can play.He has shown that.

Uh, when? Certainly not last season, or even the season before. Hatcher has not been the same (as in flashing upside) since Brian Stewart injured him in the 2007 preseason.

And while I like both Canty and Olshansky a lot, Jerry is going to go cheap at the DE spot and let his young guys compete for the spot: Bowen, Hatcher, Marcus Dixon (PS), draft pick

Ratliff can even see some time at DE if Dallas can land a starter type NT.
