"The only thing that will surprise you about Demarcus Ware and he knows, but the only thing that surprised you is that as soon as you get on him you're like, 'Oh my God, this dude is a beast,' Cooley said. "He's not going to do anything, but try to drive you straight back. We were watching 49ers film, and he is punking Vernon Davis straight back into the backfield a couple of times."

:laugh2:

I'd like Cooley if he were a Cowboy; he was great at Utah State.

I feel so fortunate that we got this guy.

I think the following players I'm just grateful for.

Jason Witten, Dez Bryant, Demarcus Ware

The only thing is I know we would have had greater success if they drafted Steven Jackson... god why... biggest draft failure i've ever seen, probably followed by drafting a tight end in the 2nd round like two years in a row.

IIRC this is what's always been stated but if we didn't do that trade down in '04 Parcells takes Spears at 11 instead of Ware... so.... I don't think we could have Stejax + Ware on the same team. Who knows what Parcells actually would have did though.

People keep saying that, but who did we draft first? I think it was obvious we were willing to let Spears go.

But would we if we had just one pick? I think that's the point. It was easier to gamble on Spears with two picks compared to just one.

The hindsight game isn't worth playing because who knows whether we're picking in the same spot if we draft Stephen Jackson?

If I remember correctly from the time, Parcells was huge on Spears and wanted to draft him first. Jerry said no and went with the scouts and others and drafted Ware. Parcells didn't get his way but luckily, spears was still there a few picks later so it turned out to be the correct move.

I definitely think we get Ware instead of Spears, but you make a great point as to where we would be picking. I think we wouldn't be in a position to draft him had we drafted Jackson.

From what I understand, Parcells wouldn't have drafted Jackson even had we stayed put because he didn't like Jackson's size and running style. From what I remember, BP didn't think he would last more than 3-4 years.

I think Cooley is trying to play a little head game here. Cooley has problems against Ware standing up at the point of attack. Much better for Cooley when Ware tries to go around him because that plays into his strength. Cooley has decent feet so he slides well.

I think Ware should just continue to abuse in a straight line and just make Cooley use help.

Speaking of the hindsight game, I was wondering where the Detroit Lions would be had they chose Andre Johnson rather than Charles Rogers, who turned out to be a druggie and a bust.

Then later, they select Calvin Johnson. In all likelihood, they wouldn't have been in a position to draft Calvin Johnson had they chosen Andre Johnson. But, man, talk about two beast receivers playing opposite each other.

Steven Jackson is NO hindsight...

We talked on this very board for weeks about how we would all love to get him, but that there was simply no way he would fall to us. And as if the heavens themselves open up for us, he did....

Then the heartbreak... dallas trades their pick... I don't think I could breath...

Don't call it hindsight...

yep. that was definitely a "***?!" moment for me during the draft.

Good stuff...

“Literally we have dug out game clips from 2006 and 2007 of me playing against Demarcus Ware. I mean I have played against him every year and the dude is so tough. They have Anthony Spencer on the other side and he’s phenomenal. It’s a huge challenge for the tight ends this week. Obviously it is a big challenge for everybody. I think a couple of their best players are their linebackers who we will see every single down, so there’s a lot of study that will go in for us. There’s a lot of technique ideas and game plan ideas to help us block them, to help us get off, because I am 240 pounds and he is a little bit bigger and stronger than me. I gotta outsmart him.”

Well, that doesn't sound stupid. I fully expected it to be typical Cooley foolery.
