What is the point in that and why would a trainer be ok with that?
This is a full-body workout with a heavy emphasis on core. It's a similar effect to Olympic lifts with much less strain on the body and a better translation to playing a sport.

I don't find them particularly effective, but, especially this close to a season, this is probably better than, say, a power clean.
