  1. Zach Wilson, BYU
  2. Trevor Lawrence, Clemson
  3. Mac Jones, Alabama
  4. Kellen Mond, Texas A&M
  5. Justin Fields, Ohio State
  6. Trey Lance, North Dakota State
Simms classified Wilson as an elite passer, saying he is the best pure passer and a "superstar" in the draft with good athleticism and a plus release. Simms believes Lawrence has some things he needs to work on, namely in the mechanics department. Simms says that Wilson is "clearly the No. 1 quarterback in the draft," with the only knock on him being his size.

At No. 3, Jones is also something of an intriguing selection. Simms believes that Jones' arm might not be as strong as other counterparts in this draft, but is still physically talented, can make all the throws and moves well within the pocket.

Surprisingly (shockingly?), Simms has Texas A&M QB Kellen Mond one spot ahead of Ohio State's Justin Fields, with Fields falling all the way to No. 5. Simms pegs Mond as highly accurate and sound mechanically.

While Simms believes that Fields is a better prospect than former first-round pick Dwayne Haskins was coming out of Ohio State, mechanics issues and questions about his role in a single-read offense knock him down the ranking. He also cited several poor performances last season as the reason for the drop.

Fields has gone through the ringer in the pre-draft process, though many believe he is the de facto QB2 in this year's draft behind Clemson's Lawrence. Wilson's exceptional 2020 season with BYU vaulted him directly into the QB2 discussion.

Chris Simms' 2021 NFL Draft QB ranking is out; Trevor Lawrence isn't No. 1 — and neither is Justin Fields | Sporting News

No mention of Kyle Trask???

Trask only passed for more yards than any college QB other than Alabama's Mac Jones, and Trask passed for the most TDs and a passer rating of 180. Trask easily was a better passer than all QBs whom Chris Simms listed other than maybe 1. All accomplished while playing in the toughest conference in college football, the SEC.

I believe Kyle Trask is being overlooked the way Aaron Rodgers was when he was drafted. Most definitely Tom Brady was the biggest overlooked passing QB to come out of college. I believe Trask has the arm, size, smarts and ability to become a very good pro QB. If the Cowboys are able to pick up an extra 2nd round pick, I would seriously consider using that later 2nd round pick on Kyle Trask if he's still available.

I think Trask is going to be a good QB. But he is being dinged for his arm strength, for sure. Weak arm for a QB is like short arms for a tackle, height for a CB etc.

Fair enough. The good thing is arm strength and grip strength can be improved, and Dallas' training room coaches got picked this past season as one of the best in the NFL. With proper training, Trask has the body height, build and muscle mass to improve his average-at-best arm strength and ball zip.

I think that poor outing by Trask in the cotton bowl really hurt him. That is a god awful performance vs an OU defense that for much of the season was not that great.

I haven't spent any time on Mond but I think Simms judges these QB's on what they are TODAY.

I tend to project more.

Today though.. It's hard to argue against those rankings.

I project Lawrence to be the best QB in this class but Wilson TODAY has more developed skill.

Simms was a college quarterback and Texas and played in the NFL, also worked under Belichek.

So I'd have to give his views credence....

There are only 2 QBs in this draft who I would take in the 1st round. I am sure more will be taken in the first, but only Wilson and Lawrence deserve it IMO. They all have flaws though. I am concerned this QB class is going to be a bust overall. I am 50-50 on that. I am not a big fan of Mond, Jones, Lance or Fields and I too would put Trask on the list but still not near the top of the 1st round. The all look great in their highlight videos but I do not value highlight videos very highly. However, Chris Simms knows a lot more about QBing than I do so I defer to him.

I know who Simms is, son of Phil and Texas Longhorns QB who was benched and replaced by Major Applewhite. I have no issue with his views however watched a lot of Texas A&M games and Kellen Mond ranked that high by Simms I fully disagree with him. I would not even touch Mond until 4th or 5th rd.

Fair enough, it's all guesswork anyway until and if they get in the NFL and get an opportunity to play....

Much of what Simms says I agree with. I like Lawrence but I think he better chill with the tough guy act, he will not last long in the NFL if he think he can challenge LB and safeties in this league. I think Lawrence will develop if he eases up on his running style but I think it will take him some time to be effective in the pocket especially since he will likely be headed to Jacksonville

I don't hate simms and I do agree on some of his views, Mond not so much, I have seen a lot of Monds and pulled for Texas A&M (even though I am a Longhorns fan) and just came away very unimpressed with Mond. Maybe he makes it in the NFL but in my view he is mid to late rd at best.

like I said, Simms has his rankings right, except Mond doesn't belong in that list. He's a major project. I might think about him in round 3 or so. I like Ehlinger better if I were to take a 2nd day QB. He has more tools and I feel a better understanding of the game.

I like Sam Ehlinger but I think it was a mistake for him to declare for the draft this year. He had the chance to remain at Texas for this coming season and given the fact he is viewed as a mid rd pick he could have remained and continued to develop himself both physically and mentally as a QB
