Cornerback Morris Claiborne has been attending practices but has not been cleared to participate.

Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said Tuesday morning that Claiborne "had a real strenuous workout" Friday that caused some "lingering effects."

"He did do it well," Jones said on 105.3 The Fan's Shan and RJ show [KRLD-FM]. "But on the other hand, he did have some lingering effects from that over the weekend. So we will let that sort itself out here this week, let him have some more very strenuous workouts. We're very pleased with those. And, so, we'll be looking to him as we look to what we're doing, see how the games go here."

Claiborne has been out since injuring his groin against Philadelphia on Oct. 30. He posted last week on his Instagram account that he received "good news" from a recent MRI and "should be back to practice before the last week and ready for the playoffs, if not before then."

Are the Cowboys still confident Claiborne will play this season?

"Based on how he was able to move around Friday of last week," Jones said, "even though he did have some resulting soreness, then I think we can look to see him on the field in the future this year."

It would be a great boost to have him back and healthy for the playoffs.

Not quite sure how to interpret this. I read it as him being sore after a strenuous workout rather than a medical setback. Hope I'm not letting my optimism cloud the truth here. We need him. I'm fine with having him for the playoffs. If he can knock off some rust prior to that time, then all the better. I just don't want him to rush back and suffer further injury.
