Anyone going to acknowledge the glaringly obvious fact that Claiborne is playing the Zone for the 1st time?

He's been a press corner...got drafted as a press corner.

Didn't have to play zone his 1st year under Ryan.

He's 4 games in trying to relearn the position.

But no slack with this fanbase. Get it immediately or get out.

And then if we cut you and you go on to flower someone else...we blame management.

Nice to be able to have your cake and eat it also.

Pretty much. Didn't have much experience in zone coverages. Little wonder why he is struggling now.

Claiborne playing with both poor technique and low confidence, Garrett says
Cornerback Morris Claiborne, picked on repeatedly by Philip Rivers and the Chargers in Sunday’s loss, is playing with poor technique and low confidence, coach Jason Garrett said Monday.
“They went to him too much in this ballgame, and they were too effective,” Garrett said. “He’s just got to play better, and he will play better.”

“We feel like the combination we had out there is the best combination. And if we thought otherwise, we would make that change,” Garrett said. “But what he (Claiborne) needs to do is just play better. He needs to play with the right technique and do it consistently, over and over and over again.”

this was a good read. WoodysGirl always finds the gems. And Garrett's famous words "he's just gotta play better". And for JG to say the guy is playing with poor technique and low confidence, is that not a knock on the coaching staff?

I get what you're saying...and you are not wrong by any means. But is it not fair to say then that a HUGE problem with this franchise is that they do not develop a long-term plan, draft accordingly, and stick with the plan?

And yet the entire fanbase wants us to change head coaches again.

I posted the other day that within 6 season Bill Cowher had 4 seasons where the steelers were 6-10 (twice), 7-9, 9-7.

The fanbase would have run him out of town here.

Not really.. As BDC noted above, it directly correlates to his lack of practice time in training camp. And just as he was able to practice and play, he gets dinged again. For all intents and purposes, this is his training camp and he's not healthy.

Not the entire fan base.

Fair point. Some hyperbole...especially since i'm part of the fanbase and am an unashamed fan of the work JG has done.

We have to stop coach hoping every 2 to 3 years.

People want to know why we are 8-8? We start over too much.

Imagine what you can be and how much sustained success you can have when you're drafting 4 or 5 or 6 years in a row with a consistent plan.

I feel bad for him. He has high expectations on his shoulders and here he is in his second season, battling injuries, playing a new scheme, and he hasn't even had a full training camp since he's been here. It kind of reminds me of early Dez, which is why I am not going to give up on him. The talent is there, but it just might take a while for us to see it on the field.

Not saying it hasn't been done, but Mo needs to be sat down and told loud and clear (but respectful) that he simply has to play better and that poor play won't be tolerated, if he's hurt (which he is) fine, but poor footwork because of a bad shoulder won't cut it at this level fair or unfair.

Agree, coaches have to make a big decision. He's a major liability and will cost greatly if allowed to play.

You are right...and Cowher had some brutal playoff losses---and I THINK some were at home...but not positive. I think the only difference is that Cowher had what it takes to finally win a Super Bowl. Some people didnt think that way until he actually accomplished it. While with Garrett, I just think the fans that are calling for his head just dont think he is head coaching material, now or in the near future.

Whoa...I just looked up Cowhers coaching record. In his first 6 years he won: 11-9-12-11-10-11 games. In his first year, they won 11 games(with Neil Odonnell and Bubby Brister splitting QB duty) and they won 7 games the year before he was head coach. I would say Cowher had immediate success in Pittsburgh. Moreso than Garrett for sure.

One of the contributing factors to fan's impatience with Claiborne is that they don't just want to see him shut down WRs. They want to see him get some INTs. They want to see him on returns. They want to see the athletic ability for which he was drafted. At least with Dez, you got to see enough to where it left you hungry for more. They're not getting that with Claiborne.

Some nuggets from my boy, Woody. ;)

"As talented as he is, he needs these type of reps to take that next step," Woodson said before the Cowboys Kickoff Luncheon Wednesday at AT&T Stadium. "I'm a little concerned about the start of the season with him and if he needs to knock off some rust."

"Durability is one of the concerns for Claiborne," Woodson said. "You know athletically what this kid can do. He's one of those guys that's so gifted at the cornerback position.
"You can always determine if it's a great cornerback or an average cornerback when the ball's in the air. If the ball's in the air and there's fear in his eyes, then that's an average cornerback. Claiborne is not afraid when the ball's in the air. He will make a play on that football, he doesn't care at all if he has to take a risk to go up and get it, I see that side of him, that athletic side of him.
"I just need to see more of a toughness side of him, especially in this Cover 2 scheme when it's the corners and the linebackers as a whole having to come up and make plays, having to come up and make tackles. We're going to see if he's one of those guys that will make some tackles."

Claiborne is the next Felix Jones/Martellus Bennett... the guy everyone piles on and keeps screaming how much he sucks and how releasing or benching him will improve the team... until we find out that after doing so, we are still an 8 and 8 team.
