Did anyone see Hill on NFL Live? Nothing really new, just discussing the fact that Barber and the team are still far apart in contract negotiations and that the team is a little disappointed that he's working out in Miami and not at the facility.

Is he scheduled to report for the upcoming OTA's?

Is anyone concerned about MBIII's contract situation?

he obviously believes he is worth elite back $$$, I hope Jones holds firm here and doesnt give in...honestly I wish they'd convince him to play under the 1yr tender before giving him a mega contract, but Rosenhaus would probably not agree to do that unless Jones also guaranteed we wouldnt franchise Barber next yr, and we dont want to lose him without gaining something in return

Hopefully when he does show up he'll be in good shape

Rosenhaus and Barber have got to know that they don't have a lot of leverage in these negotiations. MBIII had one good year. He made the Pro Bowl largely due to notoriety. Barber didn't rush for more than 1000 yards and he didn't start a regular season game. Plus, the team went and drafted two runningbacks. If Barber really wants to be a hardass about this, the team can start Felix Jones and use Choice as the change of pace guy (or vice-versa) and Barber can sit at home if he wants.

If Barber does play hardball over a new contract, I'll place the initial blame on Rosenhaus because such a move is out-of-character for Barber. He 'willingly' shared snaps at Minnesota. Ditto in Dallas. It's plain as day why the team added Felix Jones to the mix and he sees that too. Considering his established team-first attitude, I fully expect that the contract demands will become much more reasonable once the true negotiations begin, but if they don't, I'll suspect that Rosenhaus will have advised his client to stick it out. He's a snake, so I expect of him, but not Barber.

Rosenhaus works for Barber and he's doing his job. Why blame him? Canty chooses to work out at the facility. Barber and Hamlin could too. They choose not to.

This is another case of the business of the NFL interfering with fandom. And because the team was so bad that there were no players worth keeping or we were so hamstrung by the salary cap, we (the fans) never actually had to go through these types of negotiations like other teams.

This is a process. It's the offseason. Just gotta let things play itself out.

Barber is a restricted free agent that has no leverage so he'd be foolish to hold out. If he hold's out, he is still a RFA next season.
He is obviously not considered an elite back by other clubs, or he would've been signed to an offer sheet. I think that several teams would've given up a 1st and 2nd if LT was available.
Barber is going to be hugely disappointed because he is buying into Rosenhaus' hype. I just hope that it doesn't ruin his attitude with the Cowboys.

Holding out does would not serve him well. As previously mentioned the RFA tag remains. Secondly it opens the door for Felix Jones to be the starter and Choice coming off the bench or possibly becoming the starter if it does not work out with Felix.

And to that end, I think Eatman's article was another 'external' pressure intended to needle Barber et al, IMHO...Is it concerning?...I think so but I don't know 'how' concerning it is...It reflects an apparent gulf between the two sides apparently and maybe this is Drew's way of negotiating leverage in a future deal, who knows?...Surprising from Barber considering how diligent he's been as a teammate all through this.

Gotta think that regardless of what Jerry says, it has him p'd off

Except for the fact Marion Barber is amazing.

That he is and I can respect the fact that he's trying to get his business handled. He's been a TD machine and a spark plug for us. I hope we get something done pretty soon. It would be great to have Felix and Tashard start learning from him asap.

My thoughts on the situation:

Rosenhaus is doing what he does - taking care of his players.

Barber is a team first guy that I believe wants to stay in Dallas.

Jerry wants him back + Barber wants to stay = things work out eventually.

I don't think we break the bank, but both sides will probably come out happy.

I'd initially blame Rosenhaus for Barber holding out for unreasonable contract monies because he wants to get his greedy little hands on his percentage. Still, I did say initially. Barber's intelligent. He understands the ramifications for holding out, not just for himself, but for the entire offense as well. Holding out for money you're never going to see isn't very smart. It's stupid and fruitless.

Should Barber dig in his heels, 100% of the blame will be his. Hopefully, it will not come to that. Of course, Barber has the right to get paid like any other professional athlete trying to capitalize on a very good season. If he will lower his contract demands to monies more in line with a Pro Bowl, yet backup running back AND he decided to then hold out if Jerry Jones was unwilling to show him the money, more power to him. He's more than earned a hefty raise, imo. As a fan, I just can't sympathize with him over any long-term disagreement he would have with the franchise over a contract that he hasn't earned. Yet.
