Just so I'm straight. Ireland gave an interview after the 2006 draft stating they took Carpenter and Fasano because they were the BPA. In fact EVERY pick that year was BPA. With the resources he had at his disposal, he came to the conclusion that Carpenter was going to be a better player than Antonio Cromartie.
I'm glad that dillhole is in Miami.
That is all.

I'm more upset at the Fasano fiasco, a player we didn't need, or we could've gotten 3 rounds later.

I agree. At least tell the truth. Tell us we needed a SLB and backup TE don't tell us they were better than everyone else on the board otherwise, you really really suck at making a board.

Cromartie slipped in the draft due to injury. Its not like Carpenter has been given the opprotunity that Cromartie has either. Cromartie should just go to show what one season can do. Who knows maybe Carp blows up next year if given the opprotunity, maybe not, who knows. I remember people having Carp higher on their draft boards than Aj Hawk. Maybe next year is the year he gets on field?

IMO, the main problem with Carp is that he's not a good fit for the 3-4.

If you're gonna run an offense that has two STARTING TEs, then you need two TEs worthy of being STARTERS.

Yes, we did need Fasana.

No, we couldn't have drafted him 3 rounds later.

Yeah in all honesty it was widely considered a risky pick, considering he barely played in college and was coming off a nasty injury. Only thing is Carp is a poor fit in 3-4 as OLB.

and it was as recent as last year that everyone was excoriating the Texans for taking Mario Williams over Reggie Bush.

It's a year-to-year league.

true, carpenter is a 4-3 outside linebacker, he needs the 4 defensive linemen to keep the offensive linemen off of him

i agree we passed on crom, and we could have crom and mcneil ot, but you cant look back,

i still have hopes for carpenter, what carpenter needs to do though is get in offeeason conditioning and bulk up some to take on block better and show that nasty streak he showed in college,

then you have to remember carpenter had a nasty thigh quad injury, really he should have had surgery that really set him back, and the cowboys have moved him around from inside linebacker to outside linebacker to rushing on defensive line, you cant get consistency that way, even carpenter said, if they dont quit moving him and give him a chance at one position he will be ticked off

now thats what he needs to show to be ticked off in offseasoning and build his strength up, I remember Parcells saying that Tom Landry showed him 3 main things, always give a player the benefit of the doubt, and give him until his 3rd year, if u remember gurode example, they kept moviing him from center to guard, finally left him alone at center and he excelled,

so wade philips is suppose to be this excellent defensive coordinator and superior defensive mind, let him find out where carpenter excells and let him play at that position, just give carpenter his time in offseason and preseason, then lets see where carpenter is by start of regular season

There is no excuse for picking a LB over a CB like cromartie unless his name is ray lewis or lawrence taylor. I've been telling you guys his injury was a bunch of crap. Willis Mcgahee tore 3 ligaments in his knee and buffalo still took him in the first round. We totally missed out on a all pro for years to come.

Clarification. It is 2008.

Let it go.

This always puzzles me. If you compare players in the year they were drafted, people say "It's too early. You've got to give it 2-3 years to accurately grade a draft". If they wait, it becomes "It's 2008, let it go".

So when is the proper time?

As usual I'm not getting into a debate over anything I say, but I will stand by us needing other things in the 2nd. I'm pretty sure we could've gotten a Fasano "type player" later on in the draft.

Carry on folks.

Carpenter was a bad pick

But you have to grade the body of all his picks. Ireland and Parcells did fine in the big picture.

Few in this decade can hold a candle to Pioli and BB.

Green Bay also has been masterful past few years.

So Randy Moss or Greg Ellis... ????

Joking. Same concept though.

Hindsight is 20/20 or whatever the saying is

True, but it sure looks bad when the best young CB in the game is taken the pick after you and the guy you took the only reason he's on the roster is that he was a high draft pick and his dad played for Bill

We are so luck to have Carpenter......did you see him down that punt against the giants? Awesome.

I figured it was only a matter of time before we started to defame the people responsible for our success just because they were gone. It started with Bill Parcells last year, now it's Ireland. Neither were anything special. Anyone could have done what they did. And in 3 years when the Dolphins control that division, I guess we'll have some other bad stuff to say. whatever.
