Clark Contract Restructure

This is the least amount of money they could have saved by altering his contract. If they gave him an extension, they could have saved 15m. They will probably extend Quinnen and save about 15m. Going with the lower option with Kenny makes a bigger FA signing very unlikely. 1 or 2 tier 3 FA's totaling 12m is about all you will get from here on out.

I was going to like that statement but then I felt you were being sarcastic and you weren't being real But I think my take on this is they're keeping Clark which is a positive if you look at Gary, Osa, Clark, and Q Will that's a great start to a nice line we just need to fill it in with some guys who can pressure on the outside...

I mean this might be one of the best defensive lines that Cowboys have had in a very long time and that's before we add anything to it because they're talking using Overshown as an outside linebacker, you got EZE, I mean I kind of like what that looks right now and then they still going to add to this..

Yes it frees up money but the important thing is he's staying at least a year We'll get to see this group together from training camp and start the season together and that's good news..

Overshown needs to stay on the field.

EZE is recovering from hip surgeyrh
 
They are going to sign a LB for about 6-8m per year is my guess. Maybe a CB.
They aren’t signing anyone for more than that

He was already under contract until 2027, so there wasn’t much they could do if they didn’t want to commit long-term. In my opinion, this was the best way to handle it.

The Cowboys have capologists and contract experts—this isn’t just Jerry and Steven making calls.

They have people whose sole job is to manage contracts and the salary cap, and if they thought your suggested approach would bring more money, they would’ve done it. They have their reasons for handling it this way.

A couple of years ago, it was the same situation—an entire team of professionals working on contracts and finances, giving the Cowboys the information they need.

They’re not making decisions on a whim; these are experienced pros who do this every day. Sometimes, during situations like the Parsons deal, the Cowboys don’t even meet face-to-face with the player, sending others to finalize contracts. This isn’t some mom-and-pop setup—it’s a massive organization with around 1,200 employees, many in the front office focused solely on contracts and the salary cap.

Any organization is as strong as its weakest link. Jerry Jones is the Cowboys’ weakest link.

I guess they could still Extend him even after this move and save some more money. This does get them cap compliant for the Start of the league year Wednesday. They are probably on autopilot for a few days until FA stabilizes a bit... I lied, they still need to save about 7-8m by tomorrow to be compliant. Adjusting Gary's contract could do the job.

I looked at his restructured deal and its exactly what I predicted would happen.

The Cowboys restructured his 2 remaining years while adding voided years so they could spread out the immediate signing bonus.

The actual contract length did not change so he's still only signed for 2026 and 2027.

The only difference is by restructuring he will now have a dead money cap hit when the Cowboys move on from him at some point over the next couple of years, but it won't be bad at least.
