Claude Monet would love this football team

What a weird, out-of-body, seance-like experience it is to watch a Cowboys game these days.

It smelled bad, down 17-10, 3rd down with Tony Romo about to get skulled again for a big loss and a punt. Ousting Vick hadn't helped. We felt the most humiliating loss of the season building to a crescendo. A rookie behind the most gawd-awful offensive line in football.....

But then a twist, a dodge, a cutback, and a throw, all in one of Romo's greatest plays ever, and the game turned. Less than three minutes and 21 points later, the game was suddenly well in hand.

Huh? What just happened?

It's been a season like I can't remember, winning games that we should have lost and losing games we should have won, capped by a LONG week for Jerry Jones, in which Jimmy Johnson punked him with his Ochocinco version of "child, please."

Ratings for Cowboys games are way down, and apathy and disconnection between this team and its fan base is as high as its been since 1960. It's so bad, Mike Holmgren, who has a job, is lobbying for a job that currently Jerry doesn't want vacated. Yeah, have fun with all that, Jason Garrett.

Such a cloud of yuck hanging over this franchise.

But lo and behold, a couple of wins against the lowly Browns and Commanders, paired with a loss to Green Bay by the Giants, and Dallas finds itself curiously tied for first place with an edge in divisional record.

What's more, the Giants are playing like gum on a shoe, and they follow the Packers with difficult games against New Orleans, Atlanta, and Baltimore. They're two Dez fingerprints from an ugly three-game losing streak after getting throttled by the Bengals.

If ever it was proven that you can't play good football consistently without an offensive line, it was yesterday. The Cowboy line was abused, but the Eagles line was abused-ier. Had it not been for six offsides penalties - SIX OFFSIDES PENALTIES - Dallas would have cruised to an easier win because Philadelphia is transfixed on killing its own quarterbacks. Designed run plays for Vick, who's been hit more than any QB in the league already?

The Eagles QB ate dinner out of a straw, and ours didn't. There's the difference in the game. Good luck with all that, Foles, as you begin your NFL career behind King Dunlap and the Fighting Mannequins.

Key to the season from here on out: get Phil Costa back asap. Doesn't that just paint this abstract season perfectly? I think that was football, but I'm not really sure.

Claude Monet, the impressionist painter? I'm a big Monet fan and impresionist art. However, I have no idea what you are talking about.:)

But, I will say Jackson Pollock's paintings look more disciplined and organized that most Garrett plays. Although, the worst Garrett plays seem to be of the minimalist art genre. You know, white on white canvas with maybe a square here or there, or a single line.

It looks like football, I think, but I can't entirely be sure. It's up to some degree of artisitic interpretation and debate. That was the point.

At least the Cowboys have their facial parts in the right places.

Jerry's face excluded.

Ba-da-boom!

Monet or Van Gogh...doesn't matter. I get the point. This is some weird football we're watching, and the thought that we really need Costa back, that Costa may be the key to the season, a less than stellar, undrafted free agent, makes this season even more weird...if that's possible. Lol...anyway, it was a fun read. Thanks.

WTH?

Impressionist painters? I tried googling Monet to see who he played for!

C'mon guys, next thing ya know, you'll be talking about interior decorators!

Good post, weak title.

As ****ty as this team has been, they very well could still win the division at 9-7.

I see what you are trying to say. Nice effort. However, Monet was perhaps a bad example. Monet's paintings are easy to figure out what the picture is. Maybe, Cubism and Picasso would be a little better at what you are trying to say. Perhaps Dali, to an extent.:)

Alright, I'd change it to Van Gogh, but I can't edit anymore.

Definitely wouldn't compare this team to impressionist painters. Beautiful, flowing pictures is not how I would describe this Cowboys team.

Agree with above, surrealism makes more sense

From Ocean's 11

Danny: Tess, you're doing a great job curating the museum, the Vermeer is quite good, simple, vibrant, but his work definitely fell off as he got older.
Tess: Remind you of anyone?
Danny: And I always confuse Monet and Manet. Now which one married his mistress?
Tess: Monet.
Danny: Right, and then Manet had syphilis.
Tess: They also painted occasionally.

Great read Erod.

Thanks, I love the brilliance of Ocean's 11 dialogue.

Rusty: I hope you were the groom.
Danny: Ted Nugent called. He wants his shirt back.
