Please allow me to introduce you all to Clayton Thorson. He's currently a senior QB with the Northwestern University Wildcats. He's 6'4 and weighs 225 lbs. While Drew Lock and that Herbert chap are very good players, this might be the value pick if we want to go with Ed Oliver with our early draft pick, if that's how this season goes. He'd be someone I'd probably look at in round 3. Here's a link to his Walter Football profile: http://BAN-INCOMING-IN-3-2-1/scoutingreport2019cthorson.php

What stood out to me the most from reading about him is that he's good at using his feet to extend plays. If you watch the video, you'll see this to be the case, and he's not a bad runner. He's particularly dangerous with his feet in the redzone as he's more than willing to pull it down and score. This helps freeze the defence and create more space (something I wish we'd do more with Dak). He also seems to have good decision making skills. The really big problem with him, according to the above link, is that his footwork in the pocket isn't the best, and he tends to try to do too much. If he learns how to slow it down a bit, he could be really quite the QB. He seems to be a chap that's flying under the radar a bit, but he does take on a lot of the Big 10 defences, and he does actually quite well despite that.

I must apologise for the fact that one of the clips involves that really annoying announcer from Monday.

He's been underwhelming at best this year. His turnovers against Akron cost them dearly in a loss to what should have been an inferior team. I know he was splitting time with TJ Green (I assume because of the recovery from his injury) but he has not lived up to the hype. If the Michigan defense eats him alive in their next game I think it's time to drop that draft grade down to late third day.

Are we going to finish 2-14? Thats about the only way we have shot at Oliver.

I dunno. At the time I posted that, I wasn't all that confident about the rest of the season after our showing against Carolina. So, I was thinking that Clayton would make a good 2nd or 3rd round option.

He'll fire coaches before he dives into the draft for a new franchise QB.
