according to ESPN's John Clayton...says 4 other teams were trying to sign him but didnt name the teams

Oh come on, that Offense doesn't need any more help. Can Crosby play DB?

Had to be a better signing bonus, but signing with a team loaded at wr is plain dumb.

Smart long-term thinking by the Colts. If he pans out he'll provide a cheap replacement for Reggie Wayne when he leaves in UFA next year, because he will get good offers in free agency and they Colts probably won't be able to keep them with so much money already invested in the offensive skill positions.

Seems to be novel thinking ... looking ahead one or two years down the road, noticing potential problems and taking steps to alievate them today rather than wait until everything comes to a head and your choices are limited. I wish we would see more of it around here. Maybe we wouldn't be working on a 10 year rebuilding plan.

Two ways of looking at it...

are they "loaded" at WR

or do they do for WRs what the Broncos do for RBs.

He may be thinking that it's the best place possible to showcase his skills.

he wasnt going to play anywhere he signed so it doesnt make any difference...probably a practice squader

Their starters are both former #1 picks, one being considered one of the best in the league and their third guy is a former 4th round pick. They are loaded. RBs are effected so much by line play, there just is no comparing.

Reggie Wayne is a UFA after this year, and the Colts won't resign him. They already have too much money invested in their offensive skill positions. Someone desperate for a good WR is going to over pay for him and give him #1 WR money (very likely us), because the free agent WR market next year is crappy and the draft class doesn't appear to be much better.

After Harrison/Wayne/Stokely, you have a list of nobodies because the Colts haven't been using draft picks on WR's. If Crosby can just earn the #3 WR job in 2006, and it seems he has little to no competition for it, his career is off to a great start. The #3 WR puts up 1,000 yard seasons in that offense and is an after thought for an opposing defensive coordinators list of priorities. They're only going to get more lopsided to the passing attack if they let Edge walk next year.

Dungy knows damn well that Crosby doesn't have a chance. He just wants another toy to play with before he throws it away.

Wayne, Stokley, and Harrison are the only three receivers that the Colts will need. They'll keep two or three more on the roster just for the sake of injury.

Umm, yes... I'm sure that's it...

He's probably a 2-3 year project anyway. If I'm a project type player with great physical tools, I can think of a lot worse players to try and learn the game from than Manning and Harrison.

He picked a good spot to go. Indy throws the ball more than anyone and even the 3rd wideout can get a 1000 yards.
I am interested to see where this guy is in 3 years.
I also wander if the Cowboys were one of the other teams that approached him.

You can count on it. Crosby will not be in a position to make the team should none of his big three go down.

Won't make it out of training camp. (IMO)

Well, the Colts do play a lot of WRs and Peyton Manning does throw the ball a LOT and likes to spread it around so it isn't such a bad move by the kid to sign with them. When you throw as often as Manning does your receivers' stats are going to be inflated.

Someone else pointed out that Wayne will be a UFA after the season and they aren't likely to have the cap room to outbid the other teams that will be interested in his services so bringing in Crosby this year was a smart move all the way around.

If he does get put on the practice squad, they are leaving him open to be put on someone else's 53 man roster. Lets see what he shows in pre-season.

Oh please, "practice squadder, if that"...try more like top 3 in Dallas- probably on the field in our first 3 wr-set of the season had he signed here.

Gawd, I sure hope we have something still up our sleeves... the same damned thing that happen last year is going ot happen again,...one of our guys is going to go down midway through and one of the younger guys we have on this team won't step it up because they lack the talent. This "practice squadder" would have been pure GOLD in Big D, period!

But hey, in the off chance he becomes nothing...a thread to bounce back up to the first page to prove how right some of you were....in 3-4 years. Lol
