Anyone watch many San Diego games in the past. Why did they let him go. Didn't they also lose Cromartie - you would have thought they would try to keep him if they were getting thin at CB?

A bit of veteran experience can't hurt at 4th CB.

How long did we sign this guy for? Gonna have to research him a bit. Would Wall then be the practice squad guy? Talk of him has gotten quiet.

Will be interesting to watch, but you can never have enough quality corners, and while Gordon seems to be a bit of a risk-taker so far, he might be energized or have gotten a wakeup call.

Need to look up where this guy was drafted and what the scoop is on him. Didn't realize he was a veteran, thought he was undrafted rookie.

They didn't lose Cromartie, they traded him and that was just going into this year. Cletis has been with us since 2009 and left the Chargers in 2008.

Right now I'd say Cletis is on the roster, yeah.

SAN DIEGO – In a move surprising mostly because of its timing but also because of the potential of the player involved, the Chargers Monday released cornerback Cletis Gordon.

The team's decision makers said they wanted Gordon to be able to have a chance to sign elsewhere. But multiple sources said the team was displeased with his lack of physicality and effort on special teams.

Gordon missed a tackle on the opening kickoff last Saturday in Arizona, helping the Cardinals' LaRod Stephens-Howling to an 89-yard return.

Gordon, an undrafted free agent in 2006, had been kept around largely because of his speed and undeniable potential. He was given a second-round free-agent tender in the offseason, meaning he would have made $1.545 million this season.

The fourth cornerback, Gordon was fighting for his job with fifth-round draft pick Brandon Hughes and, of late, Simeon Castille.

The Chargers are likely going to keep four corners.

It's going to be a tough decision between him and McCann, I see Wall possibly making the PS.

It is things like that which will cause a guy to try even harder when given another chance. Lucky for Gordon, Wade Phillips was familiar with him and brought him to Dallas. From what I have seen and read during training camp Gordon has been doing very well. The int he had in the last game just gave fans who have not seen training camp a glimpse of things he has been doing

Honestly, I don't see it as a tough choice, at all. McCann seems to have great upside and you would hope that the Cowboys can find a way to keep Newman, Jenkins, Scandrick, Gordon and McCann. But, Gordon has been lighting it up in camp this year, and it's actually translating to the field. You absolutely cannot let the guy go after the camp and pre-season he's having.

Wall is PS material at most this year. Maybe he's next year's Victor Butler, but this year, he's clearly outclassed by his other teammates.

agreed Gordon is the 4th CB barring injury

Wow, thanks for info.

So was this guy on our 53 man roster at end of last year? He does have some wheels. Maybe he did get the wake-up call. Wade thought enough about him I guess?

Never paid any attention to the guy.

We have some interesting depth, and the cuts are going to be pretty tough at some spots.

CB/Safety, DLine, last LBer spot, 10th Oline spot?, 6th WR spot?

Some decent players with potential will be let go.

Going into camp I did not think much of Gordon but by all accounts he has been have a very good camp and showing it during the games. I think he is doing alot to earn that job as the 4th CB.

Remember the interception, but dont forget the touchdown that sailed right by him in broken coverage.

And don't forget that Wade and others already said if was Mccray's fault. And that it wasn't a TD:rolleyes:

The WR did not score on that play. I'm not sure if that was on Gordon or the safety either way someone made a mistake if that was Gordon's mistake then that is something he needs to work on but all players make mistakes at least he is showing the ability to make plays as well

there is no decision to be made..Gordon was and always has been entrenched as the #4 CB..at this point he is a LOCK to make the team

Gordon looks the part but McCray pays dividends immediately for the STs.

Also McCray provides depth at Saftey with Sense' out.

The Chargers did what the fans wanted us to do with Jenkins when he whiffed on a tackle. Stupid fans, lol.

Wall is dreadful. Gets turned around too easily, doesn't open his hips the right way when turning out of his pedal, arm-tackling. Too many no-no's for a DB.
