Although I admit it's really a long shot.

They are 9-6. So are the Tennessee Titans.

Next week San Francisco is at Cleveland while Tennessee is at Indianapolis.

If they finish with the same record, the first tie breaker is head to head. They didn't play this year so that is out the window.

The 2nd tie breaker is % in the AFC. For that to be tied both would have to win next week. Right now Cleveland is 7-5. Tennessee is 6-5. If both lose Cleveland would win the 2nd tie breaker as Tennessee would be 6-6 in the AFC.

The 3rd tie breaker is common opponents with a minimum of 4 games. Unless I missed one, they only have 3 common opponents. The Bengals, Jets, and Raiders. The Browns are 2-2 having lost to the Bengals today and Raiders in week 3. The Titans are 2-1 having lost to the Bengals.

Man this stuff is confusing. I will certainly be a 49ers fan next week. Them winning helps us and hurts the Patriots.

I believe its all up to the Titans-they win and they are in over CLE. Clevland winning or losing doesn't matter in regards to the playoffs.

Great minds thinking alike. I just started a similar thread. Can someone merge them?

Cleveland proved today that they don't belong in the playoffs since they couldn't beat a 4-9 Bongols Team

In short, if the TItans win, the Browns are out. If the Titans lose, then the Browns are in... regardless of what the Browns do.

What difference does it make in terms of the Cowboys pick acquired from Cleveland?

Even if Cleveland wins, if the Titans win, the Titans go to the playoffs.

If the Titans lose and Cleveland wins or loses, the Browns still go to the playoffs and will be locked into whatever position in the draft their record allows, unless Cleveland goes to the Super Bowl.

Could be up to 13 spots. That's a big difference. If the Titans win the Browns have ZERO chance of pushing that pick up to (or down to depending how you look at it) 31 or 32. If the Titans win we're guaranteed to have a top 20 pick (if I understand it correctly).

I guess the playoff part of the thread threw me.

Obviously, I hope the Browns lose. But even if they lose, if the Titans lose, aren't the Browns still in the playoffs?

It's pretty convoluted. I just hope the Browns lose and the Titans win and solve it all.

Kind of surprised that the Browns loss and the Niners won. If the Cowboys don't get McFadden, I definitely don't want the Niners to nab him.

It's a minor thing, but you forgot the Texans. Either way it doesn't matter because Tennessee swept the Texans they will have a record of 4-1 in common games whereas Cleveland will be 3-2.

Pshaw...you guys were 3 hours behind. :)

And it could possibly push the pick all the way up to the 17th overall if tiebreakers work out for us.

I think Vince Young can beat the Jim Sorgi-led Colts.

You are correct. I believe this means the Titans hold the edge if both win. The Browns hold the edge if both lose.

Yeah, pretty weird scenario there. As a result, NBC scored on their Sunday Night finale regardless of what happens earlier in the day.

They won't-they'll beat SF handily, but Dungy will be resting his starters in the TN game. Titans get it.
