Why does not being satisfied with Parcells' always mean someone wants Campo back?

I'll never understand that.

Seems like an awfully lazy way out of actually seeing a point of view.

Geez - don't most ALL teams lose some close games?????
They do play 16 games a year?

So all teams that suck are playoff contenders in shoulda could woulda land - Juke?

1988 Dallas team lost 6 games by a TD or less - damn close
1989 Dallas team too - 4 games lost in "close" fashion. That 1-15 was damn misleading.

1979 Dallas way overrated? Won FIVE games by a combined 15 points. Damn lucky bunch they were.

1991 Pats won 8 games by a TD or less in Super Bowl run. Dynasty? Playoffs?

The 2005 Dallas team win/loss Were in far more close games than I can ever remember. This "close loss" stuff is NA. This was a legit 9 to 10 win team with a tough schedule.

Huh?

You're making my point for me.

Losing close games...winning close games....doesn't matter. Winning matters. Not the score.

This team has yet to prove it can win close games in a league where close games ARE the name of the game.

Therefore, I don't get a great sense of accomplishment by the Cowboys losing close games.

The 2005 Dallas team won a slew of close games.

Six games won by less than 4 points!

We also played the top teams in the league stone cold even.

Actually it's "lazy" to bash and bash without giving credit where it is deserved.

Lazy to call everything a failure if it doesn't meet your personal expections (*cough 11-5 predictor*) or worse yet your fantasy of multiple superbowls per decade.

The perspective of bashing Tuna as being a failure here must begin with evaluation of what he did relative to the previous regime - otherwise his hiring would have been unnecessary. Evaluation of the previous coaching staff, GM and salary cap scenario... the overall franchise at a football (not marketing) level. It's laughable this is so easily dismissed by the Tuna haters - probably because the 'boys were among the WORST FRANCHISES from a talent, salary cap, age and coaching staff level. Truth hurts.

What hurts even more is the fact that digging out takes time and there are no shortcuts. The fact that a few missteps and pitfalls will arise.

It is quite revealing (and unfortunately necessary) to throw 5-11, 5-11, 5-11 in the face of said bashers, since it is a jolting reminder of "jurrah's regime" that depleted the 'boys for almost a decade since our peak year of probably '93. At that point our talent was peaked or declining/leaving never to be refueled until 2003 when Duane rode into town.

Tuna sure wasn't handed a Dallas team loaded with talent as the "genius" Belichick inherited... nor did it make the playoffs for several years prior to his arrival!

Now, if the tuna bashers had logical, real candidates to coach the 'boys and take over as GM - either in 2003 or today - people who have a PROVEN TRACK RECORD for building the franchise back up from the DUMPS... someone who might also be able to squeak out a few more Ws then that might add some good discussion in the "fantasy zone".

In fact, it is the bashing and threads with such rantings as this which are "lazy".

A great response if what you state here is true.

I'll take my perspective.

"not give credit where it is deserved" Never for a second stated that credit isn't due to Parcells for some good drafts...for improving the level of talent...for making the team a more professional organization...for bringing in guys with character...

"Personal expectations" Who the hell is anyone here to have "personal expectations" about something over which they have no control?

Where did I say Tuna is a "failure"?

Why do you ALWAYS assume that anyone critical of someone is a "hater". You wanna ask like an adult, go ahead. Ask me if I "hate" Parcells. And then accept the damn answer rather than telling me, and others, what it is we think...in spite of words to the contrary.

As an aside, I have my feelings about it...but why did Parcells achieve his best record here with the horrible team he inherited in 2003?

Why do you feel it necessary to bring Belichick's name into a thread that has nothing to do with him? That's seemingly a bit defensive on your part.

And why is it that you feel comfortable to generalize that a criticism is "hating" and that those who criticize, in fact, criticize everything and therefore, lose credibility in your eyes...when, I can just as easily say that your inability or unwillingness to say one negative word about Parcells undermines your credibility.

The truth is, his time here has been a mixed bag. Anyone who states with any conviction that they KNOW where this franchise is headed...based on this roster...based on these last three years, is misguided.

It's a crap shoot right now.

Another good draft in 2006, like 2005 and a better job with FA's and we might be ready for a damn good season.

We miss on the draft...the QB goes down (as what happened to Parcells with the Jets)...the WR's don't both stay healthy...etc..and we're in for a difficult season.

That I chose to simply say that I'm not comfortable handing out congratulatory notes based on "wow, we sure did come close in a lot of games" has nothing to do with "hating" or not being a fan.

'Nuff said by me on this subject...

noone said he was coach of the year. even if he was many of those get fired in short time.

"hater" is an online term not a literal term. it implies overbearing criticism and doom/gloom. noone rational thinks you guys "hate" Tuna as a person. "Tuna basher" would probably be an appropriate term but "hater" is a generic phrase.

We all "hated" campo as a coach - but i rather liked him as a "person".

That said, I myself have been critical of Tuna many times (foolishly kept QC/Hutch, poor Kicker & punter, suspect return game, waited too long for 3-4.... i'd have preferred a complete teardown year 1 but that is neither here nor there). Some of his calls were suspect... then again i've cursed out the TV watching Landry run the show back in the late 80s... no coach is perfect.

Like it or not, sometimes we need to take baby steps. :(

I agree with you for the most part. However, when you start losing games by a field goal or less and you have an offense that is getting you into position to make the field goal but it just gets missed, then I'd say you can start to believe that you are getting close. We are what we are, a 9-7 team that would have been much better with one more playmaker...a field goal kicker.

OR
a playmaker at the Wide Receiver position that :

  • got you a first down so you didnt have to make FG attempt
  • caught a pass and ran for 50 yards
  • caught a pass for TD not needing FG attempt
= Terrell Owens

Juke I thank you for the try at a decent debate...I believe you held your side up admirably... I have found that certain individuals will either attack the poster or try to make the poster argue things he never wrote.. for a example of the last one... Poster writes the Sun had a solar flare today...the eye dee ten tee writes I suppose you were fine with the Sun as a God and people worshipping him with human sacrifices...now you and I know the only thing similiar in those two things was the word Sun...But you as the poster has to now decide whether you should deny being a Sun God worshipper and how many other eye dee ten tee's out there will actually believe your worship a Sun God without you putting out a statement of denial which in turn has gotten way off the point you made in your original post about a sunflare...
