The University of Richmond's senior defensive tackle established the program squat record during the offseason with an effort of 640 pounds. On his way to that mark he set as a goal, Parker ripped out the inseam of an old pair of blue shorts.
"Obviously, they help with aerodynamics when squatting," Parker said.
The 6-3 300-pounder from New Haven, Conn., liked what the modified shorts helped him do, and he is superstitious. So Parker started wearing these shorts, which resemble a skirt in their remade capacity, to Spiders practices twice a week, when football pants aren't required.
The fifth-year player's comedic bone, strong character, energy level and 50 games of experience make him a respected team leader. Parker also leads by example, having made double-digit tackles in three games this season. No CAA defensive lineman has been in on more stops than Parker, who was in on a dozen during last Saturday's 28-6 win over Towson.
