Doesn't disgust me at all.
Ventura did nothing wrong and Kyle wrote that in his book and lied about the entire incident (which he had lied about many other things). Ventura gave him multiple opportunities to retract that statement and Kyle refused. Ventura was left with no choice but to sue Kyle while Kyle was still alive. Kyle didn't die until after the lawsuit had been filed and Ventura STILL said he drop the lawsuit if everything was retracted.
Defamation/slander/libel lawsuits are incredibly difficult to win because you not only have to show that it was a lie, but you have to prove that it caused damages such as monetary and psychological damages. Ventura was branded by Kyle as saying that soldiers '
deserved to die' which Ventura has never said.
The real kicker is that Ventura didn't sue Kyle for a false claim of knocking Ventura out. He sued Kyle for a false claim of him saying
'some troops deserved to die.'
Kyle's wife was either too stupid or ignorant or whatever to retract the statement after Kyle died and Ventura was left with no choice but to stick with the suit because he still had to pay his legal fees which is where much of the settlement ended up.
And despite all of that, Ventura won the settlement because he could easily prove that he never stated or inferred that '
troops deserve to die.'
Ventura didn't ask for any of this and Chris Kyle brought it on himself. Much like Dez not asking for any of this and Mike Florio and Terez Owens bringing it on themselves.
The simple solution to avoiding this entire defamation/libel/slander thing is easy....don't lie to begin with.
