It already is - watch NBC, CBS, ABC on a regular basis....

Might wanna throw Fox, CNN, FoxNews, MSNBC.................ALL OF THEM have gone to the crapper. There are very few actual journalists on any of them that actually own up to mistakes anymore.

Florio just needs to stop before he gets sued into oblivion. And IF there was a tape, maybe a Walmart employee/Cowboy fan did Dez and the Cowboys a solid and "accidentally" deleted it.

As much as I hate Florio the chances of him getting sued are nil, he is/was lawyer and he can go to the hairy edge in the name of "news" and not have to worry about. I am willing to bet due to his knowledge of the law he goes further than most news organization legal departments are willing to go.

Dez should refuse to do any interviews from now on. Unless it's with Irvin. Tell the rest of them he can't trust them. Anything he says will be twisted around, so don't give them anything.

To much in fines.

except as long as "fans" and "people" go gaga ape**** over rumors and lies, they'll continue to do it. there's no consequences for speculation and people eat it up.

journalism
sensationalism at its finest.
A lot of people should apologize, but they won't... they will just justify their bs, than hope to win the "Dez messed up lottery" in the future.

Actually, Dez ends up winning in this scenario. Now, if someone accuses Dez of doing something wrong, it's less likely to be believed by many based on this "non video" story.

he shouldn't have been drug through the mud in the first place, without proof... you never win when you're slandered... and eyes will always be on him...
hopefully he continues to show maturity.

Yup.

And Florio better have his pocket book open and he better hope he was smart enough to have incorporated himself because I don't think he has the money to win this one. Defamation/slander/libel suits need to show actual damages were made and then are rewarded based on what the jury would think the damages are, plus extra money for the grief the victim has suffered. With Dez he could easily argue that this report cost him tens of millions of dollars because he was going to become a free agent.

Jesse Ventura I believe was awarded roughly $2 million from his suit against Chris Kyle and Ventura is retired and living in Mexico. So imagine what the award would be for a player arguably considered the best WR in the league, in his prime, getting set for free agency.

And that would be just great to see.

Might clean up a lot of false reporting going on...

More like ridiculous.. He's questioned the police handling of the incident, the past and current DA's process of it, and ignores all evidence to the contrary.

Pot stirrer and nothing else here...and that amounts to 'yellow journalism.'

Florio needs to go hide. he is a disgrace to sports reporters every where. and so is Adam Schefter. NBC and ESPN should be ashamed of themselves. and so should Fox Sports Radio. what went on here should get some people fired.

Supposedly Schefter has been working on this since September, my question is working on what? How could someone be misled for that long?

That disgusts me.

Doesn't disgust me at all.

Ventura did nothing wrong and Kyle wrote that in his book and lied about the entire incident (which he had lied about many other things). Ventura gave him multiple opportunities to retract that statement and Kyle refused. Ventura was left with no choice but to sue Kyle while Kyle was still alive. Kyle didn't die until after the lawsuit had been filed and Ventura STILL said he drop the lawsuit if everything was retracted.

Defamation/slander/libel lawsuits are incredibly difficult to win because you not only have to show that it was a lie, but you have to prove that it caused damages such as monetary and psychological damages. Ventura was branded by Kyle as saying that soldiers 'deserved to die' which Ventura has never said.

The real kicker is that Ventura didn't sue Kyle for a false claim of knocking Ventura out. He sued Kyle for a false claim of him saying 'some troops deserved to die.'

Kyle's wife was either too stupid or ignorant or whatever to retract the statement after Kyle died and Ventura was left with no choice but to stick with the suit because he still had to pay his legal fees which is where much of the settlement ended up.

And despite all of that, Ventura won the settlement because he could easily prove that he never stated or inferred that 'troops deserve to die.'

Ventura didn't ask for any of this and Chris Kyle brought it on himself. Much like Dez not asking for any of this and Mike Florio and Terez Owens bringing it on themselves.

The simple solution to avoiding this entire defamation/libel/slander thing is easy....don't lie to begin with.

I'd argue some of this with you, but this isn't the place. I shouldn't have commented period.

There were a few fans, in the original thread, that you could tell wanted this to be so true. They wanted a video tape.

Sure they will claim they were just being a "Realist", and not just looking at the Star on his helmet.

Last time I checked saying things like "I have a bad feeling about this." "I'm sure there is a video, and one will surface soon. It's a good thing we did not sign him long term yet"

Does not equal being a realist. Just a bunch of panic, with a little bit of hoping this is all true. To either fit their agenda(Told you so), or just because they wanted it so.
