Looking to but a game for my son. Don't even know where to begin. Never had a gaming intrest. I was looking at a game cube or XBOX....I guess.

Let me start with my son is only 6. I'm not needing anything too techy I guess. I'll probably be getting into it with him so I don't need anything too ********(Barney) either. Something he can grow into within the next few years. Something with some adaptability for other components. Something that's gonna be pretty durable....That would include the games too I guess.

I notice most games come with only 1 controller. (Maybe that's why there so cheap) so do I buy 2 new ones that are gonna be better or just one and use the one that comes with the game.

Help me out here fellas i'd really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance,
The Ultimate Gamer........................

Tough decision..

for a 6 year old, its probably a good idea to find the system with the most "young kids" games. The one thing the Gamecube has going for it is the Mario Brothers series. I have a 7 year old and he has a playstation 2. He likes to play all types of games from Sonic the Hedgehog to Madden 2006. He also has a GameBoy Advance and has multiple Mario Brothers games for it.

Bottom line.... to me, the Gamecube is a good option for young kids because it seems to have the biggest variety of young kids games to choose from, although its not really good for more advanced features and games (online play or more advanced games). The Playstation and XBOX are a better choice if you're looking to get higher quality games and extra features.

Just my thoughts.

The gamecube is great for kids, I totally agree with that. However, if an adult is also going to share the experience, the PS2 is probably the best way to go. They are much less and the accessories are cheaper now. A truck full of games are available, including ones that are oriented towards kids.

Even though they are game systems, the Xbox and Playstation systems are being marketed to an older demographic. In fact, their target market is the 18-35 demographic and as such, you will find those systems have an excessive number of T (Teen) and M (Mature) rated games. The new Xbox 360 and the upcoming (possibly not until 2007) Playstation 3 are more expensive than their previous models and the games seem to cost more as well.

If you go with the GameCube, you will be buying a game system near the end of its cycle but Nintendo game systems have a long history of outlasting their marketing. Nintendo game systems have traditionally marketed to a younger demographic.

One major advantage Nintendo enjoys is that unlike the Xbox and Playstations (especially the new generation of those systems), Nintendo only focuses on making a game console system. The Playstation 3 for example is rumored to have a street price of $600 or more when it first releases due to it shipping with a Blu-Ray DVD drive.

Your best bet is to go with a Nintendo GameCube considering the age of your son. There are plenty of games available for the older gamers (such as parents) though not as many as the Xbox and Playstation 2. However, the GameCube is a simpler gaming system will excellent graphics and will cost you less than those other systems.

You can also wait for the release of the next generation system from Nintendo called the "Revolution" that should be released sometime later this year.

That being said, I still recommend the Nintendo Gamecube just like most everyone else has here.
