Cowboys’ Schedule Holds Challenges Beyond Seahawks

The Dallas Cowboys face one of their toughest opponents this Sunday when they head to the Pacific Northwest and take on the Seattle Seahawks. Beating the Super Bowl champions will be an extremely difficult task and it doesn’t help that the game is in Seattle where the 12th Man makes life near impossible for road teams to come away with a win.

While it’s true the game this Sunday will measure just how good these Cowboys are, it’s important to remember the schedule holds more challenges beyond the Seahawks. No matter what happens in Seattle, Dallas will need to regroup and get ready for a critical three game stretch at home that could play a huge role in how the season plays out.

The Cowboys will begin the home stand against divisional opponent New York Giants, followed by another rival, the Washington Commanders. These two games mean much more than a measuring stick contest against the Seahawks. If the Cowboys want to make the playoffs in 2014, the easiest way to get there is to win their division and it starts with the Giants next week. If Dallas had done that during the last week of the season in any of the last three years, they would have made the playoffs.

Divisional games hold premium value and winning them gives teams a significant advantage, something that cannot be accomplished this week in Seattle. It’s more important for the Cowboys to beat the Giants and Commanders than it is to beat the Seahawks and it would be a mistake to have this game be worth more than the following two weeks.

After those divisional games, the Cowboys will face another challenge against the Arizona Cardinals to end their most difficult stretch of the schedule. Their record after these next four games should tell us all we need to know about the 2014 Cowboys. Will their season come down to the last week again, or are they breaking out of this .500 funk they’ve been in the past three years?...
