CN:Cowboys Draft Profiles, Part II: The Incredible Disappearing Guards

So where do they look in the draft? It seems the Cowboys might be making the type of adjustment they seem to be making at OT, looking for more athletic types, in this case college tackles they can transition inside. Look over this list of potential guards:


Will Rackley, 6'3'', 309 lbs.
Danny Watkins, 6'3'', 310 lbs.
Clint Boling, 6'5'', 310 lbs.
Stefan Wisniewski, 6'3'', 313 lbs.
Jason Pinkston, 6'3'', 317 lbs.
John Moffat, 6'4'', 319
Marcus Cannon, 6'5'', 358 lbs.

(heights and weights are from the Combine)

Most of these guys are in the Rivera/Kosier category, more active 310 lb. guys, though there sits Marcus Cannon, in his 358 lb. glory. Lots of sites, this one included, gave him a lot of early attention because he's more in that '90s Cowboys mold. However, that 358 number has to give you pause. It's the same weight George Hegamin and Char'ron Dorsey carried into the league. It's much closer to Shane Hannah's playing weight of 347.

I like a lot of the guards in this draft. Cannon, Moffitt, Boling, Watkins, Pouncey, Wisneiski..Rackley is interesting as well

All good options and I really hope we wind up with one of them.

i would love to get this kid if we do a trade down . best guard in the draft. I know we all want a RT but RG is just as big a need.

Most people myself inclued have only been looking at tackles but If we get a beast like pouncey and resign kosier we would have 4 excellent starters on our o-line right there. We could then cut Bigg for cap savings and keep a very inexpensive columbo around assuming he is healthy until the kid we scoop up with that extra 2nd or 3rd round pick is ready

Our first 3 picks could be pouncey,heyward, best tackle available cannon,carpenter,gilbert, brewer etc)

then use the rest of the draft picks 3-7 to address other needs cb,safty,lb etc..

I dont want pouncey as a center, maybe OG, but defenitely not at C, he stinks at C

wasnt even thinking about him for center , Guy could be a pro bowl guard for years .
