No...not a pro bowl wr with > 1300 yards this season....no...nobody thought that. jerry will say it if he thinks it and he for sure never daid anything remotely closew to that...though he and Wade and others did feel Austin may become a decent WR.
Jones mentioned after Owens' release they thought Austin and Hurd could step up and match his production. I don't believe they thought Pro Bowl for Austin alone, but they felt comfortable with the two.

But he will be a career 0-5 in the playoffs if we lose.

Will Jerry waste yet another entire season, another window for this group of players, just to see if that is some sort of fluke?
Admit it, you are one of the ones that hope we will lose so we can get another coach...so your insight on this particular issue is tainted.

It's not a waste if the team is improving--which they are. I agree, however, that losing the game...even if they end up being better coached in that game than any other playoff team in the league....will make Jerry to pause.

It would be pretty odd to give a guy only 3 seasons and he wins two divison titles, but loses two playoff games (maybe neither due to his coaching job) and yet fire the guy....but I guess it could happen.

I disagree.

I am not sure how "good" Jerry Jones thought Miles Austin would be but he did mention Miles Austin's development as a reason to let Terrell Owens go.

Don't forget, the NY Jets wanted Miles Austin but Jerry Jones chose to keep him.

If you look at the 2008 Season, before Roy Williams was acquired, the Offense was very good with Miles Austin in the line up.
Details. We both agree that they thought he may be good, but we disagree on how good. I say they could not have dreamed that Austin would be a pro bowler this season before the season started. But we generally agree.

Uh, I'm with DFWJC. Nobody, least of all Jerry, truly thought Miles could replace TO's numbers. Miles wasn't even starting early in the season, for crying out loud. That was all Jerry spin for releasing TO. If Jerry thought anyone could replace TO, it was Roy.

And on this team being talented... People forget how all these power rankings had us in the 20s in preseason and even early in the season. Back then Romo was a choker, we had no WRs, Canty was a huge loss, the O-line had zero depth, Brooking was old and decepit... We're only saying how talented they are now because of how things have turned out.

And getting another coach does not guarantee anything either. We could go through another round of rebuilding and end up like the skins. The word "IF" works both ways.

I agree that Wade will likely have to win in post season to remain. I hope he does because I do think he is a very good HC and a HC this team has played hard for.

Wade does not let the emotions of the game overwhelm him and yes I think that rubs off on the players of not getting to high and full of themselves after a win or too low after a loss.

Gimme a break.

It has nothing to do with money or if the team is 'improving' or not. This is not a rebuilding situation. It has everything to do with Jerry understanding he has a 3-5 year window of Romo in his prime to win as many Superbowls as he can in that period.

If Wade flops again with a good team in the first round, Jerry is going to take a good long look at how many more years he wants to give Wade to actually win one. He doesn't give a flip if we win the division every year, he wants Lombardis.

I agree with you. There were more doubts than praise for this team heading into the season. Where would the big play come from? Romo can play but once dec comes he is no good there were alot of questions coming into this season. Thus Dallas was looked at as a 3rd place team behind the Eagles and Giants.

I'd like to think this was the case but I have seen this team fall flat on their collective faces when they start getting wind of their press clippings. Right now all we have is hope that the supposedly even keel Phillips keeps their heads from swelling. We will have to see.

That is what is good about this last game. You cannot get any better than shutting out the supposed best team in the conference only weeks after beating an undefeated juggernaut. If we suffer a relapse and struggle Saturday, it should tell a lot about how much of a handle he has on this club. The only unfortunate part is that there will be some massive generalizations made (just a bad day etc.) if there is a loss. It is what he does.

It is amazing Wade is the only HC whose job is on the line and whose team is a division winner. Hopefully this team advances in the playoffs and Wade is off the hot seat. This is his 3rd season with the Cowboys and has now brought 2 division winning season to the Cowboys. Right now I would love nothing more than to see Wade shut the critics up once and for all.

Such are the expectations of the Dallas Cowboys.

I'm not going by last year or the year before I think THIS team has done a good job of not allowing losses to keep them down and I think they are showing the ability to handle big wins. All this team has faced this year is doubters and this team has overcome that. No way we beat the Saints and win out yet they did. We would maybe make the playoffs but no way do we win the East yet they did.

This team has done what the doubters said they can't do and yes winning and advancing in post season is something this team needs to do to just maybe shut the doubters up once and for all.

Myself I was sick and tired of hearing what this team CAN'T do, I did believe 100% yes they can and yes Wade can lead this team. Of course the doubters will just call me a homer and drinking kool-aid but I do believe in this staff and this team if others don't well so be it.

I haven't really seen any head-swelling here since late in 2007. Last year we really didn't have enough success to get overconfident, and this year no one gave us a chance until recently.

But I actually think playing the Eagles might help this week. I think we know how good they are and that we can't expect to win that easily again. The 2007 playoff loss to a division opponent the third time should get their attention as well.

Problem is, the Eagles team is really good and experienced in the playoffs, so they might beat us. But I really don't think it would be because we took them lightly.

The Cowboys deserve a better HC than Wade Phillips.
Says the 5-11 prognosticator. You may be right, but I'm not so sure yet. Wade seems to be getting a lot out of this bunch this year.

It would be such a huge mistake to fire Phillips without a proven commodity who could step in and run the defense.

Look, the defense is the straw stirring the drink right now. Most of the things that are going wrong are on the offensive side of the ball, and even there things are very good.

Most people don't like Wade because of the "Aw, shucks" demeanor he has in press conferences. Meanwhile, the defense is performing at a high level mostly because of guys that have been acquired or developed under Wade's watch.

I said Austin had a chance to make the Pro Bowl. And that's before he ever started a game. There were others that saw the talent as well. So you'd be wrong about that.

True, but Wade Phillips has a ton of talent and the team he coaches just built a $1.5 Billion stadium.

Jerry Jones is making a huge statement by not extending his contract.

He feels "0" Playoff wins in 3 Seasons (which would be the case if we lose Saturday) is totally unacceptable and I agree with him.

ditto...100% agree

I think I'll be somewhat disappointed if we lose and then Wade is retained. I think Jones is handling this the right way.
