Coach Garrett and Drafting and developing Players...

One of the elements of Coach Garrett I am most interested in is they players that are drafted under his tenure and how well he does with his coaching staff in developing them. The largest problem with the franchise since Jimmy left is there is no consistent philosophy on what it means to play for the Cowboys. Jerry has drifted all over the NFL ocean as he jumps in one fad after another...ex. running QB (Q. Carter), 3-4 defense, etc. I am interested in seeing what Coach Garrett considers his system, his players and how they develop. I am very encouraged from what I have been reading so far in his first training camp. I hope that he lets the kids he drafts play as much as possible to see who can really play at this level and who can't. We have missed on way too many draft picks in the last 10 years, and this team needs to start developing players and getting the most out of them so that we are not chasing free agents like NA unless he is absolutely the last piece to a Super Bowl season.....

So now we must wait until Garrett drafts players that align with his philosophy.

In the mean time Romo, Ware, Witten and others are aging and the window of laughable opportunity is closing faster than a Blockbusters Video store.

And maybe that's stretching things a little more than a woman after a triplet's birth.

Or, it could be more grounded than a Southwest Airlines plane after discovering they weren't built as convertibles.

There is no doubt in my mind that 4 or 5 years down the road we will be shocked how our roster looks after the many solid drafts under Garrett.

I 100% agree.

I just hope that we stick with him long enough to implement his philosophy and change the culture. But, do you think Jerry and the fans will stay the course if we were to only achieve 8-8 or 9-7 over the next 2 years or so?

With the strength of the Eagles and Giants - and our apparent desire to 'stay the course' by only changing the coaching and letting go a few obviously overpaid / underperforming veterans - we might be looking at a couple of difficult seasons.

And watching as we struggle to find a franchise quarterback because Tony is on the pro/am tour.
