We all assume that unless we go deep into the playoffs that Wade is gone. There has been much speculation about who would, will and should coach the Cowboys next year. I have put together a list with Pros and Cons. I am not advocating any specific coach here in this post, just putting out info.

Name Off/Def style Pro Con
Mike Holmgren Off WCO Good w/QBs Is he burnt out?
Mike Shanahan Off. WCO/Zone Has "skins" on wall Are they really Elway's skins? Our OL doesn't fit his running game
Bill Cowher Def 3-4 Good Tough coach Seems destined for Carolina
Jon Gruden Off. WCO Fiery coach, young Offense is complicated and has done best with long time vet QBs
Brian Billick Off. Timing based Tough coach Seems arrogant, and players seem to tire of him
Mike Martz Timing Off. Great with QBs Does he run it? Might be better OC with a strong Hc to reign his use of the pass in.
*Norv Turner Timing Off. Norv knows when to run Probably best as a OC but might be good in that role in Dallas if he is fired of course
Steve Mariucci WCO Been around good coaches Is he an Offensive version of Wade, nice guy, players like but not a HC
Dennis Green WCO Fiery, got a good season out of Jeff George! Is he who we thought he was?
Mike Zimmer 4-3 Def. Cowboys ties, fiery Had he run his course in Dallas or was he ousted by Parcells. Sometimes we loved him and sometimes hated him
Jason Garrett Timing Off. Cowboys ties, less changeover Is he learning and going to improve or is he simply not ready to be an OC much less a HC?
Mike Nolan 3-4 Def. Doing great job w/Denver's D Was terrible in SF, but so was Belichick in Cleveland. did he learn lessons or is he better suited to just be a DC
*Jeff Fisher 4-3 Def, + the 46 Good tough coach. If fired , never got Titans over the hump. Maybe has been there too long and needs a change
Clancy Pendergast 4-3/3-4 Cowboy ties, fiery Is he ready to be a HC? Would he be labled a "Jerrah Puppet"?
Brian Schottenhiemer Timing/WCO doing good job with Mark Sanchez despite recent play, could bring Dennis Thurman as DC Is he ready? Is this too far from the "Cowboy tree" for Jerry.
Keith Butler 3-4 Def. Younger coach, does good job with Steelers LBs Is he ready for this his first head coaching post in one of the highest pressure jobs?

If Jerry goes defensive again with the hire. Will that person bring along the right Offensive staff to help Romo and the O take the next step. If Jerry goes Offensive will he turn to what he knows or go another way. Continuity wil lbe important, but I do not that means we stay in a 3-4 D or a Timing O. Personally I think Romo would be best in a West Coast style and Demarcus as a real DE just means teams can't try to force him into coverage and Ratliff's true position, probably, is a DT in a 4-3. Really, all that does not matter what does is getting a coach that demands respect and preaches playing disciplined football with few mental errors and pre-snap penalties. A really good coach puts his best players in the best position to succeed based on what they do best not shoehorning them into a system because that is what worked for that coach before. So, what we want is someone that can eliminate mental mistakes, motivate the team, and put them is the best situations to play well. Who best fits that criteria? Is it someone on this list or another coach entirely? I'm not sure but I can't wait to find out.

Gregg Williams

Buddy Ryan disciple who has also coached 3-4 as well as Tampa 2. Will zone blitz regardless of the front. Tough hard nosed disciplinarian who always has his teams prepared, admirer of Belichick's philosophy of forcing offenses away from strengths w/unpredictable fronts/formations. Has an attack mindset and stresses turnovers.

Only 50 yrs old.

almost as a good of a defensive coordinator as Wade, but a worse head coach, IMO...

also, not a bad radio host, til drugs cost him his job...does he like his gig now...what I am asking is if he loves his job...

from this list, I would go with Mike Nolan...simply because he wore suits in tribute to Landry. :D

I'd prefer Cowher because of his passion (and we'd keep Garret maybe) but I'd take Holmgrean if he's willing and he brings a good DC

I agree - Cower would be my first choice. Then it would be:
