I really have to hand it to Bill Parcells. He took a job that could have ruined any Coaches career and put his HOF reputation on the line to boot. He took over a team that was old and had very little talent. Not to mention no QB or RB. He since has created a very young and exciting team with very few holes. He has made Jerry Jones look like a model owner to work for at the same time. My point is that Parcells has turned a coach killer job into one that most coaches would jump at the opportunity to have. When Bill leaves now, we will not need to scrape the bottom of the barrel to find some hidden gem in the coaches ranks. We should have our pick of some of the best and most talented coaches available. I for one do not believe the Jimmy Johnson return, but I do believe he would much rather take over the team that plays for Parcells now than the complete renovation that Parcells was looking at when he got here.

Good observation and comments.

I agree. We need a good meat and potatoes draft. OL, NG. and we will be good for a long time.

I'm still hoping that if Parcells doesn't come back we can get Charlie Wiess in here and possibly bring the cleveland coach (after he is fired) as the DC. The only thing i'm worried about is a new coach switching systems.

I dunno. Even after years of losing records, this is/was still the Dallas Cowboys, and one of the plumb jobs in all of coaching. I don't think having to scrape the bottom of the coaching barrel is ever a Dallas worry. Too much prestige attached to the job, no matter how low the fortunes might sink. Even after Campo, was any coach offered the job, or had his interest 'felt out' and refused it?

True, Bill will be leaving the team better stocked. But what has really increased the coaching attraction now is the change in Jerry. I think if (and I don't know if it's true) there were ANY coaches who shied away from the job in the post Jimmuh days, I'd guess it was due to Jerry's 'hands-on' approach. Now that JJ's stepped back some, that should make the job even more attractive.

Not to say he can't step back 'up' with a weaker personality than Bill's, but I believe Jones when he says he's 'changed' his ideas on effective management.

It's amazing how having a competent QB changes the perception of a team. Before Romo, many of us here viewed Parcells' time here as a failure and now look at how that perception has turned around. I am included in that group of initial cynics. When Bill first came here I said that his tenure would ultimately be judged as a success if he was able to find a franchise-type QB. I know Romo is still green but so far it looks like he has found that guy. If so, then mission accomplished. It's just amazing how one player can change the way a team and it's future is viewed.

Especially if that one player is a QB. Bad quaterback play can make any coach look like a loser. Look what steve peular (sp?) did to Tom Landry.

If we dont make the playoffs or if we go one and out.... MANY will still call his time here a failure.... he will get some credit for some of the good players and he will get ALOT of credit for Romo that will be countered with "but he waited too long to put him in"

I think one of the worst moves we could make would be to bring Jimmy back. I love Jimmy, but I just do not think it would work.

For one once Jerry and Jimmy disagreed on something it could easily go bad.

But the main reason is this team is not built as a Jimmy Johnson team.

Jimmy likes speedy defenses, smaller Linebackers, etc..

I think if Jimmy came in he would want to rebuild this defense in his style. I can not see how that would be good.

Agreed. But for my own personal evaluation I will say his time here was a success because he found Romo. In terms of rebuilding this franchise for the long haul I think finding a QB was the most important task he faced in coming here. I look at his work here as bringing us from one of the dregs of the league under Campo to a proud franchise again and he has done that. He has restored excitement and hope to us as fans. Of course I want playoffs and championships, but you can't get those things without a good QB. If Romo is that guy then Parcells was, for me, a successful hire.

Actually a scout found Romo. I don't remember his name but I read an article several weeks back about the scout that found Romo, recommended him to the team and brought him to Dallas for a workout. Payton may have have wanted to draft him, but someone else found him to begin with.

When Purcells has left a job hasn't he always kind of had a successor to put in his place when he left, or tried to anyway? I know if Payton were still here he'd be the hands down choice from within the organization, though I may not have said that until seeing him at New Orleans. That being said who do any of you see as a Bill Parcells type successor from within? I go on record and say no to Zim right now.

Unless Jerry Offers Charlie 10 Million a year , hes going no where...

Of course.. if ND beats USC and Arkansas beats FL... ND might play OSU and if ND wins then you talk about Charlie Weiss... And that cool 10 Million..

You're probably right but the people who say he's a failure will be wrong and probably not knowledgable football people. I'm not a big fan of BP managing a game but he is almost unmatched at assembling talent. NE's first couple of Super Bowls were won with players he assembled.

Romo is just the cherry on the sundae. There was almost NO talent on the roster he took over. A lot of our 2nd stringers would start on other teams now.
