Coaching Change Bump?

Did this teams turn around have to do with Garrett or was it the natural bump that you get from a coaching change?

That's the question Jerry has to be asking himself. Many on this board are saying how much better the team has played now vs when Wade was the coach but how can you be any worse? And don't forget that Garrett was part of the 1-7 start.

Whenever a coach gets fired the players know that their butts are next and you're going to see better effort out of them naturally, their survival instincts kick in. That effort will carry them for a few games and then it will tail off and you will see their true colors surfacing again. I think last night this team looked closer to a Wade team than the team that beat the Giants. Where was that effort? If they would have bought that then this game wouldn't have been close but again that was the first game after firing Wade.

In my opinion, this team is too comfortable and it needs a coach to make it uncomfortable and for that to happen it needs new blood, someone with energy that the team can feed off of. IMHO Garrett is not it.

We lost to a 4 win Cardinal team that had lost 8 of their last 9 games and were starting a rookie QB.

Any way you slice it, that doesnt look good on Garrett's resume. If we get blown out next week by Vick and the Eagles, it really is not going to be looking good for Garrett.

This team looked like the wade Phillips team last night, not prepared and not focused to play, too amny blown coverages, too many penaltes, gave up too many sacks, so if anyone still thinks Garrett is the answer and that this team is just one or two players away from competing for a superbowl, then you are still drinking the Jerry Jones Koolaid.......because this team needs a complete overhaul.

And Barber would of been cut before we hit the planes last night, there is absolutley no excuse for that boneheaded play after the touchdown that cost the team twenty yards on the kickoff..

Garrett's team came out of a 21-0 hole. Kitna dug and dug and almost buried us. Garrett (and 3rd stringer QB) coached this team to win and the team fought. McGee threw game winner... then it wasnt.

Some people just WON'T / CAN'T see what is obvious. This team is playing to win. Is it perfect, NO! But are we heading in right direction - I feel we are.

I will take close and looking to turn the corner rather than another game coached by Wade Phillips.

I think the answer to that question is a hard one to answer. I for one believe that Garrett has started to get this team moving back in the right direction. I also know that others feel that Garrett is one of the main problems and is not a part of the long term solution. I don't which side is right with 100% certainty, but I will be glad when Garrett is named HC or another person is brought in for those duties, thus putting an end to the daily banter about the subject.

You say this as though the options are either Garrett or Phillips and it's not.

I agree to a point. The team with it's injuries isn't playing bad, but that corner
isn't as close as some think.

You're absolutely right.

Some people are being way too hard on Garrett, IMO. Franchise QB and WR are both out and Garrett is still keeping things competitive with the 2nd and 3rd string backup QB and WRs.

A hole that this team should have never been in. Do you realize that the Cards lost to the Panthers last week and is starting a 3rd string QB from that football power Fordham? They've lost 7 of their last 8 games since the bye and you're down 21?

Arizona was starting a 5th round rookie, so I have a hard time giving Garrett a pass because Romo is hurt.

Yeah, we lost but I don't like any teams chances of winning when giving up two pick-sixes in a game.

The team made mistakes but played hard until the final gun sounded. That is more than I can say for the guys earlier in the year - see the GB game.

The team needs changes across the board - D Coordinator, S, RT, RG, cb, etc... But I think JG has done a decent job. He stepped into a mess.

Yet none of this is Garrett's responsibility.

Wade is standing in the unemployment line right now thinking, "what the hell"???

It's Romo, Dez and Miles might as well be out because he's been floundering since Romo in there. Plus Roy is likely still hurting. There is only so much you can cover up for and still be competitive and I think Garrett is doing a great job with 2nd and 3rd stringers in key positions.

You have the same receiving core that won the East Division last year, Kitna is no Romo but he is one of the top backups in the NFL only Cobb may be better. Stop with the excuses every team is hurt or injured around this time. This is the Cardinals not the Patriots, being competitive isn't good enough.

Jerry made a comment last night about no HC ever winning a SuperBowl with two different teams

No one seems to know if he was saying that as if to say that he would like to give one a try, or if to say he doesn't think one would work. There is still debate over what Jones meant when he said that.

One thing is for sure, Cowher and Gruden were always on the cusp of a SuperBowl, even in the years win they did not win one. Their teams were consistently in contention.

As much as I want to win a SuperBowl, I would certainly be happy with being in the final four or six every year in between.

What Jerry meant by this is; I have to interview people for the head coach job, sooo here is a ruse to hopefully bring in a few candidates. Jerry is NOT going to let JG leave and take another team to the SB. He does however have to take interviews for the job and satisfy the Rooney rule. JG is our Head coach... I'm sure of it.

no hope of post season

Christmas night

down by 14 before we even knew what hit us

second string qb knocked out of game in 2nd quarter

given the above, I was pleased with what the team, and specifically the head coach showed me last night.

I'm not making excuses. I'm putting it into perspective. We aren't going to win every single game anyway and having key franchise starters out and another playing poorly doesn't make it any easier on Garrett.

Good post. That's how I feel about it. (Especially your last paragraph that got snipped.)

I understand that a Fisher or Cowher wouldn't be fix everything overnight. But you think this group of talented players wouldn't be incredibly on edge and at full attention if they knew they were being evaluated by one of the above plus their hand picked position coaches? Of course they would. I don't think keeping Garrett would have nearly the same effect.
