Coaching Interviews During the Bye Week

I noticed no one blew a gasket when Spagnuolo interviewed with the Jets during the bye week.

Last year the hand wringing when Sparano, Garrett, and others did that was a pall. Then when we lost it was really what the issue was that sealed our doom. "They should have been focused on football."

Remember Josh McDainel turning down interviews and being praised as a guy who gets it? Or Spagnuolo doing the same? I guess he no longer does huh?

Sparano sure went from goat for doing that to hero for turning it around in Miami.

I swear, you couldn't make this stuff up if you tried.

Selective bias. It's clear that many mediots despise the Cowboys, and they certainly let their bias get in the way of reporting things objectively. It's just the nature of the numbers. The Cowboys are the most loved and most hated team in the NFL. Although they have the most fans of any team, they also have the most haters of any team, and when you have fans from multiple teams hating them, it's going to sum up to more than the fans that love them. The same thing is blatantly apparent in the media.

That is why I say it is even more important for the Cowboys players to disregard any negative commentary in the media, and cautiously accept any praise. They only have an effect if you let them have one.

I'm not talking about the media though. I'm talking about the fans. Even though that practice has been going on for years people flew off the handle.

I do think McDaniel got it, whether that be from his superiors or on his own.

And Spagnuolo didn't have a bye week last year, right?

I get your point, that it is common for coaches to do this... But I still don't like it. And if the Giants lose with their D underperforming, their fans won't like it either.

You are right about Spags not having a bye week. There was another coach who turned down an interview like McDaniel. I'm drawing a blank now though.

I'm mostly just laughing at the hypocrisy though. It's like the hysteria last year over Tony on the bye week going to Cabo. But nothing is made of Brady going to NYC with Giselle.

Everything our guys do is to our doom. Anyone else doing the same thing is normal.
