So I just found out I'll be the head coach for my son's 7 year old 8-man tackle team.

I helped out with his team last year, but this is my first year as head coach, and I'm feeling a little over my head.

Anyone here have coaching experience? Specifically experience coaching little kids or 8-man football?

Needless to say at that age the offense is run-oriented about 90% of the time.

Any advice on play-calling, strategy, or practice drills/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

^^^ Wow.

But hey I think there was a guy on here who did something similiar to this like a year or so ago with his son's team. I wish I could remember who it was but he apparently was pretty successful so I would try to find out who that was and get in touch with him man. Good luck :)

Get them to be aggressive. At that age that is all it takes, don't be afraid to let them hit.

I coached Pee wee football for a season. First thing is you make sure you don't burn them out. They'll never take an intrest in football again. What I learned was that most kids are playing cause their dads want them to. At that yopung age they have no idea that playing football takes practice and a lot of repition. Parents will get in the way. Establish your rules at your first meeting.

At this age the most important thing is for everyone to play. Its just a game and these kids are way to young for them to be caring about winning. Just make it as fun as possible and everyone plays. Dont scream, dont yell, dont over complicate things.
