It's free and you can register your phone number and cell phone. If I remember, you can register up to 5 phone numbers.

I registered three years ago, and I have not had one call from anyone soliciting me for anything. It's a Government program, and after you register, it might take a week or so, but the call will stop.

Then, if you do get calls from someone that tries to sell you someting, you can report them to the same web site, and that company can get fined big time.

Try it...now, every time my phone rings, I know it's someone that I son't mind calling me.

It works!!

;)

We're already on it. We get calls from Verizon and Comcast because we are already their customers. Solicitations for donations don't fall under the DNC list.

I'm not sure how long it takes to go into effect, but if the other calls don't stop soon, I'm going to file a complaint.

Just let the answering machine do all the work.

I am on the no-call list and have caller ID. If I see a number I don't recognize, I let it go to the answering machine. If it is important, they will leave a message or I will pick up. Simple solution to a very small problem.

They keep calling until I get fed up and answer. I've had them call 4x/day.

I'm pretty patient about most things, but that completely irritates me.

Actually, you should look into FIOS.

Supposed to be top notch stuff.

Citibank calls me constantly. If I do "business" with McDonald's by ordering a Big Mac, can they harass me too?

What does that run?

I have Fios 25 Mbs down and 15 Mbs up, with home land-line service bundled with it. Costs me $81 per month.

If someone is trying to sell me something over the phone, I in turn try to sell them a 1978 Ford Pinto Woody that only has a little rust problem. For only the small sum of $1,200 it's yours! :)

When the phone rings and I don't recognize the number on the Caller ID I already know that this call is going to end with me hanging up on someone.

No, I don't want your alarm system for our house and there has not been a rash of burglaries in our neighborhood.

No, I don't want to contribute to your bogus "charity."

No, I don't want to upgrade to the Comcast Triple Play.

No, I don't want to change my TV provider to Verizon Fios.

Anyone, even a legit business, that calls my house automatically gets a big, fat no for whatever it is they are calling about.

If the phone rings and you don't recognize the number on the caller ID there are two things I would do.

One, answer the phone and tell who ever is calling that this is a new phone number for you and the person they are trying to reach doesn't have this number any more. Then tell them to take this number out of their system and never to call back because you got this number to use for emergency uses only.

Two, answer the phone and tell whoever is calling you want their name, the supervisors name and company contact number. Then tell them you have contacted an attorney because the continuous calls they make are harassment and if they continue to call your attorney will be in contact about a possible lawsuit against them.

I have used both methods in dealing with cold call companies with success.

There a 3rd method for dealing with unwanted calls, but I'm afraid I can't reveal that tactic in public as some of it could be considered illegal. :D

i worked at a data company, we were contracted out by various agencies to collect data, mostly city transit type stuff but also things like recruiting for a focus group and the like. always ask if they are selling something and ask what the call is regarding. if they wont give you a straight answer tell them to take you off there list, if they continue to call tell them they are harassing you and you will get a lawyer involved if it happens again.

if it is a data collection agency there is no need to be rude, you do not have to give info that you do not want to give and if you do not want to participate just ask to be removed from the list, they will do it. but if it is something to do with transportation i would suggest taking part because it really does help the city solve transit problems and helps your city plan new roads and things.

I don't have a house phone and never plan to, so I don't deal with this as much. Really the only unknown calls I get are from bill collectors (Only debt I have is medical) occasionally. Generally I simply push my ignore button but sometimes I answer. I'm never directly rude to them personally (they are just gettin paid to do a job), but sometimes I like to have fun. It amazes me how arrogant sounding some of them can be.

Had one call 2 days ago. He asked for me, and the moment I confirmed who I was, he skipped straight to

"You owe 132$ to Quest diagnostic and it's overdue, which method of payment to you plan to use?"

no asking if I was going to, no talk about anything like that, just trying to hardball me into paying immediately I guess. So I replied with

"I was going to pay it off with my nudity.. does that arouse you?"

"Excuse me sir?"

"Would you accept my nudity as payment?"

"please hold on one moment"

at which point I hung up. It's always good for a chuckle.

I like to borrow Jerry Seinfeld's line from one of the early season episodes, "I'm kind of busy right now, give me your home phone number and I'll call you back later tonight. Oh, you don't want to be bothered at home? Now you know how I feel. *click*"

First, I want to say that your stories were both entertaining, and rage inducing because most of that stuff if not exaggerated is very uncalled for.

Secondly, I want to say that I laughed very hard at this particular snippet.
