Many saw the Cole Beasley contract as overcompensation.
The Cowboys paid him more than his production has warranted, but the Cowboys see a lot of potential in him, and will probably use him more often in the future than he has been used in the past.
On one hand if Beasley produces like we and he believe he can in the future, this contract will look cheap and affordable, though only for a short period of time. It'll still leave him one more big contract in his career.
If he doesn't pan out, the Cowboys can cut him after two years, without having invested too much into him.
I think it is a win win. I would have probably liked something a little bit more substantial in terms of years, but this was still a team friendly contract, and places Beasley square on this team through the end of the Romo era.
The fact that they didn't give him a simple 2nd round tender goes to show that they really believe in him and they want him here.
