He chose not to put it eloquently though, which has never been his cup of tea anyway. So when he was featured on the Dan LeBatard Show on Wednesday and the question was posed as to why he believes no one thought he could succeed in this role, he let it all hang out.

"Being white, probably, playing receiver [led to him being undrafted]," said Beasley. "I think the perception is a little bit different. I'm not saying that they're correct by any means, obviously, or I probably wouldn't have pursued my dream of the NFL. It's the same thing with basketball. You don't think white guys can play, you think they just stand on the perimeter and shoot. Or you think they're just smart guys and stuff like that. That's just the perception of the world I guess."

He's always held fast to one particular creed when he's face to face with someone whom he believes is underestimating him based on perception.

"My thing has always been I don't look like much, but just wait till you see me play," Beasley says. "That's always been my thing."

When the 5-foot-8, 174 pound wideout came out of SMU in 2012, he was prepared to be drafted. Things took a dark turn for him instead.

"I actually thought I wasn't gonna be undrafted," reminisced Beasley. "My thought process was that if I get invited to a camp, I'll make it. So I just had to get there, and I got my shot."

He got his shot, but it wasn't how he had envisioned.

"Dez [Bryant] has gotten the worse end of the basketball thing, not thinking a white guy can play," said Beasley with an noticeable smirk. "It was at camp two years ago, everybody was playing HORSE, and I swear, me and Dez stayed out there for three hours shooting because I kept winning and he wanted to beat me so bad. I'm the HORSE champ."
That's pretty funny.

I have to give full kudos and apologies to Cole Beasley. When he came out, I referred to him as "Peter Dinklage" and said he had the body of a 7th-grader. I thought he'd get broken in half.

But if he can avoid the kind of hit he took against Chicago, he is truly an elite type of player. His moves off the line are so quick, nobody can jam him. He literally makes slot corners look stupid. They fall down all the time trying to match his moves. Add great hands, and this is what you get.

In fact, teams might start pulling their best corner into the slot because he's torching teams now. His game has improved. That would really help Dez, in fact.

Except...most people recognize that white guys can play HORSE. :)

I think there is some truth to that, Jason Sehorn ran into that perception as a CB even from some players in the league.

In a league looking for the next Wes Welker........Julian Edelman.....Danny Amendola........I find it hard to believe people didn't give him a shot just because he was white. Its hard to fall in love with his measurables and even then some were pretty much proven to be right when he essentially quit football.

In pre-draft measurements, he was 1/8" below 5'8" (i.e. 5'7-7/8").

He weighed 175.

One issues was that he only ran a 4.49 forty. Generally if really small guys get much attention in the draft, they are 4.3 types.

That's faster than I thought he was. I was thinking he was a 4.5 or 4.6 guy.

Teams play the odds.

Back in the day in the business world, there was an old addage:

"Nobody gets fired for buying an IBM (computer)".

Apple may or may not have been better, but few people were willing to take the chance on trying something different for fear of what it might do to their careers.

Same thing happens in the NFL. Unless you have a coach or gm (or owner) that has the cred to withstand the heat, most teams play the odds.

There aren't a lot of Beasley's running around, and haven't been for many years. Guys like Welker and Amendola are the exception. That being said, Jordy Nelson was drafted in the second round and has a pretty decent career.

On the flip side, look at the way the league has viewed the QB position: The white guys are supposed to be the cerebral QB's and the black guys are the "dual threat" guys. If they don't fit that mold, they don't seem to get drafted as high.
