Now only if Escobar can do the same.
With the emergence of Beasley Escobar won't be seeing the field very much. Hardly saw him on the field today. He comes in for a play then he's back on the sidelines. Just another wasted 2nd rd pick.

Just to think, a couple of weeks ago people wanted the guy to be waived.

I truly hope we don't have to hear this every week the backup TE is not featured predominantly in our offense.

What I like about Cole is that we can call him 'Beastly' or 'Measley' depending on his production from week to week. Or refer to him simply as 'David Spade,' because of the awful haircut.

The Cowboys used a 2nd round pick on a backup player who rarely sees a pass come his way because Beasley has emerged in the slot. When the Cowboys drafted Escobar in 2013 Beasley was coming off only a 15 catch 128 yard season. The Cowboys saw Escobar as a big target in the slot but Beasley's emergence has thrown a wrench into the plans the Cowboys had for Escobar. So far he's been a wasted pick for a mediocre team that can't afford to be throwing away 2nd round picks on backups. After Marty B's first 17 games as a Cowboys he had produced 11 more catches than Escobar for 162 more yards and 2 more TD's. Even Anthony Fasano who was drafted to block for Bledsoe had more receptions than Escobar after his first 17 games as a Cowboy..
It's Witten - and the fact that the coaching staff refuses to ever take him off the field - that is the reason Esco doesn't get more looks. As long as Beasley is on the field Escobar will be on the sidelines. With all the talent the Cowboys have at receiver his role in the offense is going to be very limited as we continued to see in yesterdays game. It's going to take injuries to Beasley or Witten for Escobar to get an opportunity to be productive. Are you satisfied with what you've seen of Escobar so far and do you feel he was worthy of his 2nd round draft selection?
I take this post to mean that we *are* going to have to hear this stuff every week the backup TE is not featured predominantly in our offense. Oh goody.
...Be honest are you satisfied with the role Escobar has and do you think he was the best choice the Cowboys could have made with that 2nd round pick in 2013? It's picking backups at a spot where most teams are looking for starters that have helped cause the Cowboys to spin their wheels every season.

At this point, Esco is simply a better vertical threat. We don't need to feature Witten in the pass game. On those shotgun snaps where Witten splits out, that should be Esco.
Because of their skillsets, Esco and Beasley should compliment each other really well.
Why he was drafted isn't really the point. He and Beasley are nothing alike so at this point it's Witten he's behind. Esco is a vertical, receiving TE. He has physical tools that Witten doesn't. Why they won't give him a shot in the passing game is beyond me.No, it's Beasley that's keeping Escobar off the field because Escobar was drafted to play the slot not replace Witten. The only way Escobar will get a good opportunity in the passing game is if Beasley or Witten gets hurt.
I think it's too soon to tell for this season. I was satisfied with his role last year, yeah. He's on the roster because the team believes he gives us a matchup advantage in the 12 sets. That's fine with me. I like the player and I think he's a draft pick we hit on.
I did think we overdrafted a TE at that position. And I think we did so previously with the other two second round TEs and with Felix Jones in the first. That's mostly water under the bridge now, but I'd rather the premium picks be spent at premium positions and we take our chances developing players later in the draft at TE. But that doesn't mean I don't understand that the team felt differently, and it doesn't mean that I don't like the player or think he's a waste of a pick and say so in every thread where the slot WR is mentioned.

The only thing on offense worth talking about this week. Great nickname. Beastly. What say you?
