What's he worth? And does he need to be a starter?

I really think Chip is one of the very few HCs in this league that could help turn his career around. Why is demanding a trade? This makes no sense.

I'd say it's pride and a bruised ego. I can't imagine that anyone would give up anything for him or that contract right now.

I think any team who would trade for him would use the opt-out in this contract and then sign a different extension.

I can see Cleveland doing something like swapping firsts and getting Kaep + a later pick.

And why would Kapernick do that? I think keeping his contract is the reason why he and his agents are asking for a trade and not a release.

That's an intriguing idea to be honest, but I'm not sure Hue Jackson and the Browns would prefer a reclamation project over their own, rookie quarterback who still has 'that new QB smell!'

I thought it was the 9ers who have the opt-out clause, it's not up to the player.

I was mentioning it for the team that would be trading for him. They obviously wouldn't opt out after giving something up for him.

lol no. Think of it as like a sign-and-trade...it's not like they're going to trade him and then just let him be a FA.

Maybe there's rules against that but I'd think that they could make the trade only knowing that Kaep is going to immediately sign the new contract after the first is voided.

So again, if you're going to do that, why give San Francisco anything? Why not just force them to cut him and negotiate completely on your terms? The guy was benched last year and has undergone numerous surgeries since.

Not to mention it making no sense from the player's perspective. I'll allow the 49'ers to prosper from my exit, send me wherever they want, AND I'll negotiate a lesser deal with that new team - that I didn't choose - on TOP of it?

Makes no sense.

Because he'd be going to a team that would be handing him the starting job, which he's not going to get anywhere else.

Kaep is one of the dumbest QBs in the league. I remember reports after the 2012 season saying he couldn't learn the playbook, one was laughed at for stating this on ESPN.

You can get away with having low football IQ at other positions, not QB.

He doesn't put the work in. I don't know if his IQ is really low, but he's definitely lazy. After 2012, he spent more time and dedication to banging Instagram models then learning the playbook and trying to improve in the pocket.

At his current contract that he's being traded for? Yeah, that's starter money.
