I'm just going off memory here and could be way off, but it seems like most college coaches make the jump to the NFL successfully right as a team is going through a major rebuild including a QB change. Would a college coach be as attractive to a team with a mostly set roster? Often times their biggest asset coming from the college ranks is they are very familiar with the draft classes that year and schematically offer hybrid systems that allow for easier transitions to the NFL.

What about Lincoln Riley
as a Longhorn fan that is a hard no yes it's because I'm a Longhorn fan but really when Myers and Saban and petrino and Chip Kelly and all these other guys can't make it why do you think he can is it because when he left oklahoma now oklahoma is not very good anymore?

Dan Lanning
Kirby Smart
Marcus Freeman
Steve Sarkisian

Any of the above would excite me more than any named previously mentioned save Ben Johnson.
There isn't an NFL team that would take Steve sarkisian and don't get me wrong I'm a Longhorn fan he's unproven but he has like a $40 million buyout nobody's paying him that much to leave college maybe in two years we can get him and manning but right now he's too expensive you need to keep that in mind there isn't a single team don't say Jerry's cheap there isn't a single team that's paying $40 million to buy out Steve sarkisian before they spend money on a guy who's open and can get out easier look at all those contracts tell me what the rest of those would be to buy them out these guys have long term expensive contracts that have very expensive buyouts typically college does this on purpose so you don't poach their guys...

And that includes Bill Belichick now no way they're paying to get him out of that deal...

But let's stick with guys that can get out or already available other names are being thrown around here none of them with big buyouts would work it'd be easier to get Kellen Moore or kliff Kingsbury and I know everyone's gonna be against that but what's the difference I think those guys could be a similar fit at least they've been in the NFL for a while..

No to Lanning, indeed no to Smart (he ain't), maybe on Freeman but if Day leaves Ohio they will throw in the cities of Cleveland and Cincy to get Freeman back home to Columbus, and you got to be kidding that Sark the Shark is going to leave the Manning family and a national championship.

But stranger things can happen especially in Philly and Ole Miss.

Lanning is a great coach but do not see him being a fit in Dallas. He would not be able to control the culture in Dallas because Jerry would get in the way.

This very well may be true. The thing to consider though is that college jobs objectively suck now. Half your work is convincing boosters to give more NIL money, there’s no off days or quiet periods. Recruiting and working to retain players with the transfer portal is nonstop. It’s what drove Saban away. You spend far less time actually coaching than you do in the NFL.

Also, as someone who loves college football, the stage of the NFL is just different and always will be viewed as the pinnacle
Can only go as high as $21.5 million per year in NIL monies. And the “pinnacle” is how much you’re paid. Schools will hire the equivalent of General Managers. The coaching in college is getting more similar to the NFL.
