That 10.07 yards per completion would have been below average last season. There were only 9 teams that averaged worse than 10.07 yards per pass completion last season. He did a good job of completing all of his passes, but these were not a lot of medium to deep routes. There were a lot of shorter routes and a couple of dump offs.

To be fair Josee, I think that Romo's career AYP is only something like 8.15.

True. And his YPC of 12.77 ranks him 1st out of all active QBs and ranks 77th all time. Yards per completion is a stat that has steadily dropped over the years as the passing game has evolved. The majority of QBs ranked ahead of Romo played pre-1990s. Only 4 QBs played at least part of their their career in the 90s.

Don Meredith
14.70 YPC
ranks tied 13th all time

Roger Staubach
13.47 YPC
ranks tied 44th all time

Danny White
12.47 YPC
ranks tied 98th all time

The Yards per Completion stat is more telling as to how far down field passes were thrown. That is why guys who played in the 50s and 60s have high YPC numbers. They threw lots of deep passes back then. Their completion percentage was very low, but they made every completion count.
