Hope Sanders pulls a Brian Griese and trips over his dog in his driveway.

Yeah, but I would bet that their names are the on the list every week. Dungy takes the opposite approach of BP. He reports everything down to jock itch.

Some guy on GAC said Sanders was definitely out.

Yea...I was listening to their website and they mentioned that the starting safety sanders and the back up did not practice today and doesnt look like they will play. The starting MLB is out with a hamstring. Boy I dont wish bad on no man but with a mediocre defense this should be a very high scoring game and I trust our defense more than I trust their #2 passing defense.

The biggest reason they have the number 2 pass defense is they have the league's worst rush defense... why throw the ball, if you can run at a 5.1 yards per carry clip against them??

In TOTAL defense, they are quite mediocre, ranking 16th... ditto scoring defense, where they rank 18th, at 21.0 points per game...

They rank 20th in yards per play allowed, at 5.3... 23rd in first downs allowed per game, at 19.6... 30th in 3rd down conversion percentage allowed, at 47.2 per cent...

As for that vaunted pass defense, they actually rank 29th in completion percentage allowed, giving up a 64.6 per cent completion rate... they're 11th in TD passes allowed, with 10... they're 13th in interceptions, with 10... they're 30th in sacks, with just 15, and 28th in sack yardage, with 102 yards...

Looking at those stats, how in God's name are they 2nd in pass defense (yards allowed), even when you factor in their lousy run defense?? They give up a VERY high percentage of completions, and don't get to the quarterback much...

Given their defensive statistics, it is hard to believe that they are the last remaining undefeated team. And yet they are.

Apparently they are much better than their numbers (because their numbers stink).

they are 2nd in pass defense because they dont give up many big plays...you say that teams want to run the ball on them because its so easy, and that probably plays into it, but teams have attempted only 47 less passes in 9 games (basically 5 attempts a game) than teams have against us...however they rank 2nd in yds per reception allowed at 10.0 (by comparison we are tied for 24th at 11.9)...only 7 teams give up more yds per reception than we do...Indy also ranks 2nd in shortest long play allowed (the Bears are 1st, longest pass against them is amazingly only 36yds)...the Colts longest play allowed passing is only 45 yds...we of course have given up a number of plays that long or longer. And while they may not be getting the sacks, they do have two really good pass rushers in Freeney and Mathis and both guys have been consistent double digit sack guys in years past.

Marlin Jackson loves playing time and knows he's going to get it. He just doesn't know where, game to game, practice to practice, moment to moment.

Over the past three weeks, the Indianapolis Colts' second-year defensive back has practiced and played at nickel back, cornerback, strong safety and free safety.

"I used to love doing two (positions). That's easy," said left cornerback Nick Harper, who in his early years with the Colts played some nickel back and some corner. "But four? And doing it on the fly? That's a load."

Injuries at safety have made Jackson a man on the move. Mike Doss went down for the season with a knee injury three weeks ago. Bob Sanders has missed six of the past seven games while recovering from knee surgery. He did not practice Wednesday.
Jackson is nearly as busy in the evening as he is during the day.

"I keep my play book at home, so I can keep on going over it," Jackson said. "Gotta take DVDs home because playing safety, you're looking at certain things and looking at different things at corner.'I just have to understand the whole defense and be ready to go at any spot."

Jackson made six tackles while starting at strong safety at Denver, two while playing nickel when Sanders played against New England, and five as the starting free safety last weekend against Buffalo.

The shift from strong safety to free relieved Jackson of some gap responsibilities against the run. If he plays safety Sunday at Dallas, it will be at that spot.

"He's the most versatile player we've got and sometimes you have to fight your way through it," coach Tony Dungy said.
No Sanders, no surprise

Sanders' practice absence is a circumstance to which Dungy is becoming accustomed.

"I have gotten to the point where I don't expect him to practice and I don't expect him to play," Dungy said.

"If he does, it will be a bonus. "He's played two games for us in eight or nine weeks, so hopefully one day he can come back and all that soreness will be gone. That's what we're trying to get to. We don't want him to play a game, not be able to practice and have that up-and-down yo-yo."

Dungy called middle linebacker Gary Brackett (hamstring) and wide receiver Brandon Stokley (knee) doubtful for Sunday's game but said he expects tight end Bryan Fletcher (ankle) and defensive back Kelvin Hayden (knee) to play.

Reagor progressing

Defensive tackle Montae Reagor was a visitor to the team complex Tuesday and Dungy said he expects Reagor to begin running and lifting weights next week.
Reagor suffered head injuries that required surgery in an Oct. 22 auto accident.
There is no certainty that Reagor will return to the field this season, but the Colts' hopes are obvious in the fact that he remains on the active roster.
"We think there's still a possibility," Dungy said, "so we want to keep our options open as long as we can."

I wonder if this has anything to do with teams needing to pass deep in order to get points.
