Are there at least rumors out there that we're trying to resign him?

PLEASE don't tell me these Leonard Davis rumors are because we want him as the RT, not the RG. That would be a DOWNGRADE of a player with a RAISE in pay.

This is going to be pretty disappointing if we drop Colombo for Davis. Holy Christ what a stupid move.

I think the reason we are supposedly trying to sign Leonard Davis is to play right tackle ONLY if we can't re-sign Columbo. If we sign Davis and Columbo , Davis plays right guard and Rivera will be let go immediately after. Just my opinion.

Davis is going to get tackle money somewhere. With all that $$ we have invested in the line, I don't see this -- if there is a huge signing, why not got the extra 2 mill a year and get Dielman or Steinbach? Otherwise, I'd see us going cheaper - maybe someone like Pork Chop Womack

I tell you, I'm not down on Leonard Davis for right tackle. He was around 18% body fat as a rookie, and at 360 on the scales...as to talent level, I think that he is at about the same level, that Erik Williams was at the same points in their respective careers...post injury. Davis' dependability improves tremendously on the right side of the line, where he fits quite well. Additionally, he would bring much more dominance to the short yardage running game on that side of the line.

I still say the ball is in the court of Marc Colombo, who still, despite having a solid first year, hasn't grown NFL roots considering his very severe injured past, with accompanying history for the previous three years....to cash in that background, at a top level, is asking Dallas to gamble where it just doesn't need to, or is wise to also...

We shall see what Colombo does, but since Wednesday is about here, and for me, that is the point of no-return, without a solid contract in hand....

...then I would sign Davis immediately upon Friday, and then see if Colombo comes around during free agency-but, probably he won't. Just to be realistic...

The Davis signing (probably going to happen) is for the RG position and backup RT position.

I would enjoy seeing Dallas resign Colombo, for right tackle...and then, add Leonard Davis for right guard at the very start of free agency. Before San Francisco starts throwing around money at Davis...:money:

Hill's article today said "he'll be back".

Whatever that means.

would mean Davis will not be signed..

and visa versa.

The very rumors that Dallas wants to sign Davis is probably what is holding up the Columbo resigning.

Columbo's agent figures if Dallas is willing to pay a ransom for Davis, Columbo is worth more of a bargain but isn't going to bend over for Dallas.

It's a cat and mouse game right now and the winner is..

the players.

I'm not sure paying too much for either of these guys is smart.

Draft an OT 1st rd and let's move on.

I think Columbo will be resigned. Jerry has paid up when needed, especially for players he thinks have a future. I beleive he thinks Columbo has a future. In addition, it makes sense if you look at the way the NFL is set up.

I am not so sure we sign an offensive lineman in FA. My reasoning?

a) I believe he has been quoted as saying we can build this area from within
and
2) He has been recently burned (twice no less) from high priced free agent o-line pickups. See one Rivera and Fabini.

Jerry is a very successful individual, on that I would think we can all agree. The man owns the premier team in the most popular sport in the good ole US of A. There is one thing that most successful people have in common: they learn from their mistakes.

Also, if you look at the FA landscape this year for linemen of any talent, it is pretty bleak. Combine that with the fact that there are a bunch of teams that have plenty of cap space, and a few that will be FORCED to spend in FA in order to get to 85% of cap. It all adds up to an overpriced extravaganza!

How many of you where saying that Gurode would never get 5mil a year? HE at least made the probowl. Watch what some of these other yahoos make.

Note I said burned by two High price free agent o-line pickups. We got kosier on a 5 year deal for like 3mil a year right? Columbo I can't remember, but it had to be less than that since he was cut given his injuries.

What o-lineman FA whos name has been floating around this year is comming to Dallas for 3mil a year? Heck, Columbo will get more than that I would think...at least the team should know what he has to offer given he was here last year.

Fine, Fabini got a mediocere contract. It wasn't to bad, especially because it was filled with escalators based on playing time.

So if we are keeing score, he busted on his big contract FA o-lineman: Rivera.
Got a backup from Fabini, which really might not be bad, especially since the contract was fillled with escalators based on playing time
Did ok with two cheap FA signings in Kossier and Columbo.

Thank you and TEK for both missing the real point of my post.

My main points are

a) That I think he will resign Columbo sense he think there is a future there and has said we can build within (which is really what the thread is discussing)
and
2)I think Jerry will be gunshy to sign one of the FA o-Linemen this year because you are going to have to pay them an ***-load given how many teams have cap room, and the few that are FORCED to pay to get in compliance. He is gunshy, because the last FA o-lineman he paid huge bucks too was a complete and utter bust.

And the last two olineman we got on day one were Rogers and Peterman, so according to your logic they wont do that either.

Last season his FA big bucks failure was Vandy the other big money aquisitions were Ayodele and Kosier and both of them worked out rather well.

The Rivera signing was three years ago and why he would be looking to back then and not on the evaluation process used on Kosier i have no idea.

Both of the moves that wre done immediately ie Ayodele and Kosier worked out very well for them. i would expect them to do more of the same. The Boiman and Hannam aquisitions looked a lot more like afterthoughts than thoughout aquisitions.

No, you got it wrong again. I am not even talking about the draft. The draft is a whole different ballgame. You are not reading my point. Let me try one more time.

Jerry will resign Columbo

Jerry will not get any of the FA o-linemen that have been put forth around here, because he would have to pay out the ***.

That is all Im really saying. Since you have been trying to point at flaws in my logic, do you disagree with what I am saying?

Are we not going to resign Columbo?

Do you think we are going after one of the High Priced FA o-linemen this year?

You make mention of Ayodele and Kosier...both of them were signed to reasonable contracts...Reasonable is going to be out the window this year for the three FA o-line names that have been thrown around on the forums.
