PLEASE don't tell me these Leonard Davis rumors are because we want him as the RT, not the RG. That would be a DOWNGRADE of a player with a RAISE in pay.

I am not so sure we sign an offensive lineman in FA. My reasoning?
a) I believe he has been quoted as saying we can build this area from within
and
2) He has been recently burned (twice no less) from high priced free agent o-line pickups. See one Rivera and Fabini.
Jerry is a very successful individual, on that I would think we can all agree. The man owns the premier team in the most popular sport in the good ole US of A. There is one thing that most successful people have in common: they learn from their mistakes.
Also, if you look at the FA landscape this year for linemen of any talent, it is pretty bleak. Combine that with the fact that there are a bunch of teams that have plenty of cap space, and a few that will be FORCED to spend in FA in order to get to 85% of cap. It all adds up to an overpriced extravaganza!
How many of you where saying that Gurode would never get 5mil a year? HE at least made the probowl. Watch what some of these other yahoos make.

What o-lineman FA whos name has been floating around this year is comming to Dallas for 3mil a year? Heck, Columbo will get more than that I would think...at least the team should know what he has to offer given he was here last year.

BBQ101;1395135 said:Fine, Fabini got a mediocere contract. It wasn't to bad, especially because it was filled with escalators based on playing time.
So if we are keeing score, he busted on his big contract FA o-lineman: Rivera.
Got a backup from Fabini, which really might not be bad, especially since the contract was fillled with escalators based on playing time
Did ok with two cheap FA signings in Kossier and Columbo.
Thank you and TEK for both missing the real point of my post.
My main points are
a) That I think he will resign Columbo sense he think there is a future there and has said we can build within (which is really what the thread is discussing)
and
2)I think Jerry will be gunshy to sign one of the FA o-Linemen this year because you are going to have to pay them an ***-load given how many teams have cap room, and the few that are FORCED to pay to get in compliance. He is gunshy, because the last FA o-lineman he paid huge bucks too was a complete and utter bust.

Whatever that means.
FuzzyLumpkins;1395139 said:And the last two olineman we got on day one were Rogers and Peterman, so according to your logic they wont do that either.
Last season his FA big bucks failure was Vandy the other big money aquisitions were Ayodele and Kosier and both of them worked out rather well.
The Rivera signing was three years ago and why he would be looking to back then and not on the evaluation process used on Kosier i have no idea.
Both of the moves that wre done immediately ie Ayodele and Kosier worked out very well for them. i would expect them to do more of the same. The Boiman and Hannam aquisitions looked a lot more like afterthoughts than thoughout aquisitions.
X-cellent point, often overlooked.TEK2000;1395075 said:He's also hit very well in FA with COLOMBO and KOSIER.
