What if Columbo get moved inside and play G for us. He maybe out of position at the Tackle position but he maybe better than David at G. He's got some mobility and a mean streak for that position.

I would at least keep him around if his contract is tolerable. At worse he's a good emergency back up for both RG and RT position. I would still draft G and T for the future. I see RT/LT (depending where you put Free) as top priority in the draft.

Didn't we have Stone "JJ era" who was also 6'8 or 6'9 play G too. He went to the G men toward end of his career and made 1 or 2 pro bowl.

Yeah I mean it's possible, but you need leverage at guard and I don't know that Columbo can do that. The run blocking is already bad enough.

Colombo is a right tackle all the way and its the only position he could play on the line.

Not a dynamic player at all but he was once very good at what he did.

That right side is finished though.

Davis still has hope but he needs to drop some LBS and get light on his feet and learn to play with his head on a swivel.

Guards and tackles are an offseason priority.

I'm glad the OL is coming off of a down game, going into another game 4 days later. Why? Because it will show how washed up (or not) they are.

Same goes for some of the other older players like Newman. Last week he dad 6 days to nurse an ankle injury, now he has 4 days. How much will his play decline on turkey day?

I'm not wisihing bad play on our players. But if that's the natural inevitable outcome, I want it to rear its ugly head. Jerry Jones needs to see first hand how driving around these beat up used cars does not show you as well as they did when they were new.

You've got to be kidding me. Right?

Nope.

Suh is an absolute beast.

Suh had 8 tackles and half a sack yesterday.

He's way too tall to be a guard. I can't imagine Colombo being able to get under a DT's pads very effectively.

Do you realize that's still one hell of a game for a DT?

You do realize he has been doing much worse than that all year to the rest of the league right?

That still doesn't make what Davis did impressive. Suh did less against the likes of the Bills and Rams. Are the standards for a "Pro Bowl"/49 million dollar guard that low?

Besides, what is more indicative of Davis' play? One game you can stack against the rest of the league or a body of work over the majority of a season that indicates he's awful? And please don't try to tell anyone on this board he hasn't been awful. He has the mobility of a boulder and habitually blocks air.

I disagree

He has not been awful ..... more like average this year.

And has been much better since he came back from being benched earlier this year.

I am all for upgrading the o-line with athleticism and youth ..... but I am not gonna pretend that they did not play great against the Giants and against Suh.

I agree with you completely Catch.

Those would be my two highest offseason priorities followed by some safety help.

But O-line needs to be the biggest thing addressed. Through FA and the draft, IMO.

Get some serious help in here.

LT Jared Veldheer 6'8", 315-pound

playing a 6'8" rookie at C isn't the best idea considering he hadn't played the position since high school

but they moved him out side to LT

but I agree that Columbo is to big to play at RG

I think he knees are shot

and I really think Davis has stunk it up also

so what to do

I say bring a FA for Davis - draft another RT - if they thing Young is not the guy

I am for drafting a RT any way just as a backup if nothinhg else

Columbo 2011: $1.9 million, 2012: $2.7 million

well his contract is favorable if we an get one more year

Davis 2011-2013: $6 million

I think you are thinking of Kevin Gogan who I think was around 6'7.

Ideally, we would find two better starters to replace the right side of the OL.

Realistically we can get a starter on the FA market and HOPE to land a starter with our 1st or 2nd pick. That's assuming the pick pans out (maybe asking a lot out of our front office).

I am just thinking of potential backup plans if things do not go ideally. Would Columbo be any better than Davis??? If he can play RT, I assume he has some mobility. Sure, height maybe an issue but will he be an improvement over Davis? If he can then he maybe a nice back up plan for backup RG/RT next year.

I think it's more of a case of Columbo's knees being shot. He's not a "knee-bender" to begin with.

If he was 6'3", he'd still be a lousy guard because of his diminished physical ability.
