Invitations have been sent out to 257 senior prospects around the nation for February’s NFL Combine in Indianapolis. As is usually the case, approximately 75 invitations have been withheld and will eventually be sent out to most of the underclassmen who declare for the draft and a few last minute seniors. Here’s a breakdown of the invitations that have gone out to the prospects on offense.
Quarterback
The only slight surprise from the senior class is Texas Tech quarterback Taylor Potts has not yet received an invite. Many feel Potts is one of the few legitimate NFL quarterback prospects that will come from the Red Raider program. Josh Portis of California-Pa. Was the only non IA passer to receive an invitation to this point. Jeff Van Camp of Florida Atlantic received an invitation, which was a mild surprise.
Running Back/Fullback
........
Wide Receiver/Tight End
......
Offensive Line
Kevin Kowalski of Toledo did not receive an invitation neither did center/guard Justin Boren of Ohio State, who’s not matched the level of play he displayed in 2008 while at Michigan. It was slightly surprising that Tim Barnes of Missouri has not yet received an invitation. Brandon Fusco of Slippery Rock will be at the combine, which is great to see. David Arkin of Missouri State is another small schooler who received an invitation.
The only mild surprise at the tackle position has Cory Brandon of Oklahoma presently without an invitation. Daniel Kilgore of Appalachian State, Kevin Hughes of Southeastern Louisiana (someone we are high on) and Michael Person of Montana State are all reported non-IA offensive tackles to have received invitations as did Ben Ijalana of Villanova.
All told six centers received an invitation, though Penn State’s Stefen Wisniewski is listed at guard by a number of teams
