Combine numbers are off

Does anyone else find this year's Combine 40 yard dash numbers more than a little bit strange? I don't know if one position ran on grass & the other on turf, but something's off. For instance, all top ten wide receivers ran between 4.30-4.44, while the top five cornerbacks ran between 4.46-4.52. What is just as strange is that the top five safeties ran between 4.41-4.52-many of them exactly even with the corners. The last three players in both positions had identical times at 4.5, 4.51, & 4.52

What was equally odd is that the best time for a running back was 4.45 by Cedric Peerman. Last year, the best time was 4.24 by Chris Johnson of East Carolina. That is a difference of over .2 seconds, which is unheard of. Seven of the top eleven RBs were over 4.5 seconds.

Any clues to what caused the big gap in 40 times?

last year's crop of RBs was unusually strong, you had to expect a bit of a downturn

I think this draft just isn't as strong as last year's

Safeties and CBs ran the same day on the same track mixed in together. It just shows this CB class is slow.

The WRs who blazed were generally track star types with little WR experience.

The RBs didn't have those speed guys they did last year.

The corners just stunk it up is all. Safeties looked faster and better in positional drills, opening their hips smoother etc.

aye.

the top rated CBs looked especially bad to me.

vontae davis and malcolm jenkins both looked to me like safeties.

A 4.4 is not bad for a running back -- it's unusual to have many backs breakinto a 4.3s, much less come even cose to Johnson's absurd 4.2.

On the other hand, there might be a couple safeties capable of making the move to corner as well. It's far from unprecedented-- see Nnamdi Asomugha.

I dont know if its that big of a deal or not but they were running in a different stadium on a different surface I believe.

There were all in Indy. What are you talking about?

The stadium could be a reason if other players hadn't run so well. There were at least 10 WRs that ran faster than the faster CB. 250+ pound linebackers and defensive linemen ran 4.5-4.6 times. The CBs just sucked, period.

I thought the Cornerbacks numbers looked off for the entire group, but who knows.

As for Chris Johnson...well, he is just possibly the fastest RB ever and did make the Pro Bowl as a rookie. He also blew away all the other RBs last year. There is no clock issue there, as he has timed in the 4.2s many times. DMC and Felix are pretty fast too.

This year's WR group was supposed to be crazy fast and they proved it.

40 is overrated - always has been, always will be.

Did Randall Williams ever play like a 4.2 guy?

I think Pat White stay as a QB he is very good and could be the next Micheal Vick

for about 5 seconds when we returned an onside kick for a TD.

other than that he played like 24.0 second 40 guy.
